Impossible Terran Contest: Round Two!

The deadline has been established! It is:
August 25th, 2009 at 11:59 PM

This round, the goal is to make a small animation using the terrain and knowledge of screen size. Suggested map size is 256x256. (Unless if you discover a way to make a larger size)

Rules:

-It must have at least 5 frames (5 different screens to be moved to.)
-It must scroll through these frames using Battle.net (So it is instant, and not movement.)
-It must be attached, there will be a movie night scheduled at the mutual convenience of the participants and judges.
-Anything is allowed, though terrain is a requirement.
-It can be an animation of anything, though bonus points are given for actual terrain formations and blends, as opposed to drawings of images using terrain blocks.

-Graded Rubric: (To be edited as necessary)
-Creativity - 15 Points
-Length of Animation - 5 Points
-Blending - 15 Points
-Plot (Don't worry, I'm not expecting a Steven Spielberg movie to be directed here.) - 5 Points
-Effects. - 10 Points
::::::::::::::50 Points Total:::::::::::::

=========== Bonus Points for: ========
-Dialogue
-Characterizations
-Recycled/Reused Screens (Frames)
-Blend Movement and Manipulations.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Reply.

-Winner shall be the topic chooser of the next round. Good luck!

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

err... I'm sorry but what's impossible about this?
And seems like you're asking for a movie map not terrain anyway...

Agreed. Is this a movie/trig competition or a terrain competition?

I was considering it more to be a Animated Terrain Competition.. If there is enough push behind it, I will switch the topic.
Neither of you even participated in the last. If I bother switching the topic, will you participate in it anyways?

I was planning to participate in the second one (this one), but when I found out it was "animated", then I changed my mind :( Change please :bleh:

:payne:

I strongly recommend you to change the actual form for this:
A set of any number of frames (minimum of 5) of 20x12 dimensions showing a natural disaster's effects over Starcraft's terrain (for example, have a village in frame one, manage to make a wave effect in frame two, frame 3 would be the wave near the village, frame 4 over it, frame 5, once it has done what it had to do :P).
Bonus points for terrain only (a lot of bonus points).
Buildings are allowed, units should not, except if you think it's really important, but there must be no movement in frames. If you want, you can also use hallucinations' puff.

The points is to actual make the terrain look like it is animated in itself, it will force people to try to find blends of different steps of a natural disaster.
You could also do, for example again, an earthquake into a no-mans-land so you simply add a crack that grows and implement some shaking screen, etc... ;)

My map is attached. Force 1 is the viewer and Force 3 is the downloader. Oh, and on the right you'll find an old trick that I dug up.

Problem, I'll see if I can get some authoritative figure to judge these. (I'm posting on another computer atm, so I won't be able to get SC or SCMDraft running for a while.)
My Computer is running into some POST Failure issues, so If I can't get it up and running by the time there are at least 5 submissions, I'll convince moose or someone like that to judge them.

At any rate, Good luck to everyone!

----EDIT----
The computer is now back up!!!! TY for your patience, and I will be the judge for this next contest.

Just here for the pie

You mean something like this?

I think it's a pretty cool topic; it's a lot more unique than other ones that could have taken its place.

How long do we have? I have my plot figured out, however this ONE area (20x12) has taken me about 3 hours already. (At least a number of the rooms end up being similar)

For all those who do not understand this topic, it is basically a short movie map with terrain changing from scene to scene and making it so the changes blend together.

It is suggested that if you have already submitted your entry, that you review what you have created thus far and improve it to the best of your ability/to your liking.

EDIT::::::::::::::::::::::::

Seeing that many of you have whined about not knowing what I was talking about, and requested an example, I have provided one for you.

Should any of you STILL require help with the trigger work, "This being a terrain competition, not a trigger competition", I will be more than happy to provide them for you, seeing as you cannot simply copy and paste them and re-create the locations for them.

Please note:
This is just an example for you, and, as such, will not be even considered in the judging. If you have your own methods, great. If you do not follow this example, fine. You will not be penalized. This is supposed to help you. If it "Takes away" an idea of yours, that's fine, make it anyways. I will not dock points off on the originality sleight for you, due to my example. You will be solely judged upon the quality of your animation. (For Quality, see the first post rubric, which subject to change at the sole discretion of the judge)

Concerns:
Deadline is in two days...Still have to make a spinning forest and a fully animated dragon. I may have to try really hard to get the wings to flap, firebreath to work, and rocks to fall out of the sky.

Anyways, do we know about how many people are going to join in?

None.

Aug 24 2009, 5:04 am Pyro682 Post #19

Well, I have no idea.

I may have to push it further off to allow more people to participate. At least 3 are participating so far. Krayzee ducked out, and Yoshi is IDK.
