I would recommend the first one, mainly because I wrote it.

A switch is just a value- on or off; set or clear- that you can set and read.

So if I had a long list of conditions:
EX:
Conditions:
Player brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 1
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 2
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 3
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 4
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 5
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 6

That I needed for many many triggers, I could make it so that when they are true it sets a switch. Then for every other trigger that needs these conditions to be true I can just read the switch

EX:
Trigger 1
Conditions:
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 1
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 2
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 3
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 4
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 5
Player 1 brings at least 1 Terran Marine to Location 6
Actions:
Set 'Switch 1'
Display Text "Player 1 is bringing a Marine to a lot of locations for no apparent reason"
Preserve Trigger

Trigger 2
Conditions:
'Switch 1' is set
Player 1 has accumulated at least 50 ore
Actions:
Display Text "Player is bringing a Marine to a lot of locations and also has over 49 ore. I'm not sure why this is relevant"
Preserve Trigger

Understand? Also note that a switch is by default cleared and is set or clear until another trigger makes it otherwise.

Try looking up the tutorial on it and also see Death Counters, which are far more useful.

You have failed to follow one of the rules of this subforum: do not ask very basic questions because you will probablt find answers in the wiki or a sticikied topic. Here is the frequently asked questions topic that also has information about switches.

I will close this topic now. If you have read through all the material suggested in this thread and still don't get switches, PM me any specific questions you have. If your questions are indeed reasonable and are not answered in any of the suggested links, I will re-open the topic for further discussion. If your questions are still basic, that means you're not trying hard enough (or not trying at all) to understand the material the community is giving you.
