that has some cool stuff in it, i like the aquaduct. There should definatly be a human sacrifice ontop of the temple.
Heres my entry:
I knew everyone would do temple, and of course, i had to make something on badlands... This is kind of like I am Legened, the lost civilization of humanity after the zombies and plants take over
I guess this is probably one of those "sprite plastered" submissions. just on a side note, anyone can paint on a piece of paper, but only some can create a masterpiece. Sprites, just like square terrain, are a medium of starcraft, is there anything wrong with using the resources you have?
....just to clarify, i am not implying that i create masterpieces with my terrain... a masterpiece is all preference anyway... to some trash may be golden.
None.
Let's see you make a decent piece of terrain.
@Rory
I like it. You should have had a few tigers running around
'Sprite Plastered'
Well, it's annoying when people, instead of finding a good blend, give up and stick a tree sprite over it. I don't see how this takes any skill at all.
And My sacrafical alter fucking pwns.
None.
Yeah i'll admit I really failed this time, but I put a suprising amount of work into it.
None.
If you're talking about me, the only sprites I used were in my waterfall. And in my terrain, I rarely use sprites.
None.
I'm not talking about any sole person.

Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
There is no crazy Marine on that map.
None.
Mmmk I'm tired of editing this so here it is.
Theres the giant sacrifical temple thingy that heads are thrown down, Cattle area, Slaves working the pathetic farms, prisoners fighting animals and eachother to please the townspeople, a few peasents around a fire. Small cave thing that an scv is trying to escape through, water mills to do stuff and some custom doodads. Complete with tiny waterfall thing.. Yeah..

i actually do have somewhat decent blends under the trees where it is null, i was trying to keep them visible but the sprites are too big.

A lost civilization doesn't necessarily mean there are no people there. It just means it's cut off from the rest of the world.

I can't open pigy's map my editor gives me errors can someone take a screenie for me? ><

Well, I was going for the lost, trashed city too, but after seeing the I am Legend, I give up lol. Puts mine to absolute shame. And IMO, well placed sprites can look much better than well blended terrain. Sure you can make bigger walls, but they're plain and boring. Sure you can make different transitions between different terrain types, but they're still boring transitions. Sprites allow you to give your terrain character, like how his buildings had the foliage running up them and such. Waterfalls look like crap without sprites. I'll take a sprite whored terrain that looks amazing over a boring well blended map anyday.

I think terrain needs a balance of both blends and sprites. I agree that blends can only go so far and that's where you use sprites to add little details and stuff. However, I don't think sprites should just be used as an excuse to cover up lazy and poor blending.
None.
it doesnt matter how much of one or the other you use, just as long as it looks good and is usefull. A piece can have horable tile placement or horable srpite placement, they are the same. A big part of terraining is finding blends that look good, you can have tile to sprite blends too.
