Or you could marry a relative of someone who works at blizzard

How do you work with someone that works for blizzard?
I've had a Battle.net account since like 2007 and I checked the "Yes I'm interested in SC2 beta" since then.. so hopefully they will choose me.

You -must- have ran the "opt-in" thingy from the Battle.net site in order to be eligible.
I just did and I can't wait to see if I am going to get chosen

I hope it's delayed 7 months, it won't be until then that I will really have much time to check it out
. Great timing Blizzard...

Saw this on The Escapist today. I spit my drink out and started cursing in joyful bliss.

He's the pizza delivery boy.
Hahaha. Dominoes or Pizza Hut?
Yeah beta is defintely CLOSED. The beta no longer released regionally, released globally now. Anyone who opted in will be receiving their keys a couple of days before the beta gets released for download. Opting in will be randomly, and you have no higher chance if you opted in in 2007 of if you opted in yesterday (they stressed this).
They said they were trying to get a wide variety of computer layouts to test on the beta, so if your computer has some sorta funky, rarely used format (custom-made Mac?
) you'll be more likely to get a key because there aren't that many people out there with custom-made Macs!
EDIT: Oops I just remembered - the beta won't be playable on a Mac! Hahahaha.

And what makes you think the beta wont be playable on Mac?

So your best bet is to try to get one by making a Battle.net account.
Time to make a few thousand B.Net accounts

I think you need a CD-Key (I think)

"Oh, I see it"
No, but now that I think about it, you would have to put in all of your real information. So duplicating would look bad
, having 1000 accounts with the same street address. Although, I would've never done it anyways, would have taken too long.
And no CD-Key.

wrong. they just said the beta client wont be supported for macs AT FIRST, but that the mac client will be released later. They wouldnt beta test just for pcs when it will be released for macs as well... It just wouldnt make sense since macs often have different bugs than pcs.

Everyone that attended BlizzCon 2008 got a SCII beta key (I should know, I was among those that attended). I believe the game has been in "office" beta, or perhaps alpha for about a year now. I wasn't aware that people that ordered the DirectTV got them as well. I thought they only got the code for the WoW mount. The beta key I got from BlizzCon was on an actual card along with the mount code, given to me when I claimed my ticket and goodie bag.
If this is anything like Wrath of the Lich King's beta, eventually a great chunk of the people that opted in using Battle.net accounts will get a key at some point or other of the testing. They did constant waves, going all the way up to the last few weeks of the beta, I believe.
Hopefully the beta is closer to the middle of the month rather than the end of the month. I've been waiting for my key to give me more Starcraft for over 18 months now.
None.
It has been in alpha for a while, yes.
People who ordered the 2009 feed were eligible to be randomly chosen to receive them. And they got the in-game pet, not the mount (as there was no mount in 2009).

Will the beta-testers have advantages when buying the final product (like price reductions) ?

Ah, I didn't know they tossed out random keys to those that ordered it live in '09 (I was talking about '08, which had mounts for everyone but beta keys only for those that actually went to the Con).
