I'm confused at the niche Apple's trying to cover here. It's like a gimped laptop. iPods are nice because they are small and fit in your pocket, but with something like this, it'd be pretty big to lug around. But I suppose if it works as a good tablet, that is what it's main purpose was I think?

Maybe you could use this in college to take notes and do other stuff when you're bored in class.

A laptop does this exact same function (besides the touch writing, but you can get a laptop with a tablet screen anyways). Just seems like another crazy Apple product. But hey, maybe I'll buy it once it becomes cheaper.

Apple's stock was down 1.7% today too. The next apple shit is going to be two of these put together, in a DS like fashion, with a touchscreen keyboard. The power button will be one of those touch sensitive ones with no tactile feedback, and there aren't going to be any ports (just 4 air holes).

Ugh, mainstream media does such a terrible job with tech. Walt Mossberg is the worst offender. He's apparently never heard of Windows 7 and doesn't know $500 can buy you a real laptop. One that doesn't run a glorified mobile operating system.

Cooling vents aren't sleek and sexy enough. Get rid of them.

I swear, the next thing they make wont be made of anything BUT a screen. You even put a screen up to a screen and they connect!

Silly consumer, a small part of the whole touch screen, here on the side, you push and slide that to this portion of the screen, then it shuts off. To cancel it, you can yell at it and the screen will sense your frustrating mistake, correcting it for you!

Don't forget! It's touch screen.

The iPhone was actually interesting. This is them trying to apply an old formula in a new place, and the only reason this could POSSIBLY be popular is if the advertising campaign for it is fantastic.

EDIT: Read some articles, all of them praising it. It's like people don't understand what laptops/tablets are. The advertising's down .

They don't need advertising. All these news articles and journals are plenty of free advertisement.

I love how much of a let-down this is. The iPad has been built up over the past few months as the savior of mankind, and it has turned out to be the biggest joke.

I have a friend who works for Apple who got reprimanded for saying "Apple iPad = Apple Fail" as a Facebook update. Good times.

My guess is that this will be a lost more "User friendly" than most windows laptops. In general, Apple products are easier to understand for non-tech savy person. It also helps that Apple products revolve around picture/movies/music. Most people can relate to these things compared to video games. Of course, to people who have basic understanding of computers, we prefer windows. To people who know how to program/create hardware, linux is usually the choice.

Getting past the obvious stuff... I think that this product will do fairly well (although I do not like it...). I am going to assume that this product is easy to use, and can do the basics people expect from a laptop: browse the web, chat, check emails, get news, check stocks, view pictures/moves. The big screen size helps people with sight problems/bigger hands.

Does it have a stylus? Cause if it does I would buy it. I been waiting for Asus to ship out its T101h tablet netbook so I can do quick math notes but Asus does not look like its doing that anytime soon.

True, but not at the same time. Since it's made like an iPhone, you can't have multiple "apps" open simultaneously. Seems sort of ridiculous if they're trying to kill the netbook with this thing.

If it doesn't, someone will hack it and enable "backgrounding" like they did in for the iPhone. The hacked backgrounding app is called "Kirikae", if you want to look it up.
Backgrounding lets the user simply hold down the home button, and a new screen pops up. The user can choose to run another app from there while keeping the 1st app open. Holding the home button again will enable the user to go back to any opened apps, or to open a new app.
