:payne:

Do you think it is possible to make a good cluttered forest without using sprites? I found Fwop_'s Forest Maze map awesome, but I cannot use that many sprites unfortunately :(
Thanks for trying that out :D

EDIT: I attached my actual terrain so you see how should look like the kind of forest I want, but without sprites ;)

i just wanna say your terrain looks great so far. The only thing you can do with a forest that size is just cut down on sprites here and there. delete doodads with sprites once in a while and prune out some sprites in the more bushy areas of the forest and put them elsewhere.

:payne:

But it will not look like a dense forest anymore...
Imagine Forest Maze without sprites... it's not the same ambiance at all :S
I really need help on this, guys, please help :(
I see 7 downloads for my map, but only samsizzle tried to help me...

:payne:

I was wondering if this could make it...
I deleted A LOT of sprites/Doodads and reduced a bit the forest area. What do you think of it? Personally, I do not think it looks like a "dangerous forest" at all with so few trees... and none on the Raised Jungle because it would suck up even more sprites...
So, what's your verdict?
(Please answer instead of just downloading and watching -.-)

I wish I could help but I'm not really on your level of map making! You may remember me, I haven't been on SEN in months. All I'd like to say is that I love your terrain so far. I started experimenting with zerg buildings, putting them under sprites and such to try to make a bigger forest look to get more out of each sprite so that maybe you could use less, but to no avail. I sry. T.T

Hm. Maybe you could use high jungle on the edges of where you can walk to make it seem so dense that you can't see through it? And that way you can use less trees? Especially since reg jungle looks just the same as high jungle? That's all i can think of really.

That's actually pretty near to what Lethal_Illusion suggested me over WoodenFire's method.
I'll try this out probably tomorrow.

And yes, I do remember you, youarenotworthy, good to see you back ^^ And thanks for the try :D

Ha, I feel special.

Hey I just though of an awesome idea for you. how about just putting those tree stubs all over the place (taking out the sprites) and then making the area under each of the trees high jungle? You could make an entire forest that way, and if you put enough density of trees, it could look amazing! And with no sprites! Just doesn't look that great if someone has an air unit over the forest :P

:payne:

You've got a good idea of the maximum size in the first map I posted.
A medium size is shown in the 2nd map.
A bit smaller would be okay too ^^

Thanks for all your cooperation, guys :D <3

Keep rocking, SEN!

I do not get your idea >.< Explain more in details please or share a screenshot :D

Hm, sorry, my last idea won't work. I thought the stubs of trees looked more like trees without leaves, but they are actually just stumps.

One useful trick I used for Rush was to add random tiles that chop off line of sight. That's a nice sprite-free way to make it seem more cluttered than it is (when you're walking around in it, that is).

Do you mean something like a ruin path on low grass ground, but the ruin tiles used are from High Ruin?

That could work, sure.

I'm still not sure how I could do this trick into a supposedly dense/dark forest without any path in it to show you the direction ;)

Or just high jungle on the low jungle would probably look better. I'd think it'd be obvious that the ruins blocks line of sight, which doesn't make much sense, I think.

Thanks samsizzle, I'm flattered :P

Would you mind if I ask you to make a little test map showing me your concepts, guys? I should be away from SCMD2 for like 2 or 3 days and I'd love to be able to haul on my terrain when I return :O
Please ^^
