Question, how many sprites do you currently have on the map, without the forest?

:payne:

Over 250 including the doodads (which I use much more often than sprites). Most of the doodads are trees and bushes so they do include a sprite in them :S

Sorry for taking so long but I totally forgot about this.. :(

Here it is, all I did was make sure there were at least 2 high tree doodads in pretty much every screen and placed 3x3 patches of high jungle around every tree. Walk around a bit, I think it's pretty good for an entire 64x64 map only having 33 sprites :)

The second one looks better I think, but it's just a pathway between towns and I'm not sure how much jungle you wanted. Just explore the area outside the towns a bit to understand the potential of the idea.

What do you think?! any questions?

Sorry Madroc, I'm away from my computer for something like 4 days. I'll check them out when I'll come back.
And yes, samsizzle (and everyone), I still want a forest ^^ If you've looked at my terrain so far, you should see that I really want very great terrain only for my RPG :P

May I suggest you guys something I found (stupidly) as I watched through the proposed terrain: we can use the High Raised Jungle copy-pasted on Low Jungle (to make it look like Low Raised Jungle because it do not have any difference but vision). Though forthe vision restrication, you then must copy-paste the corresponding bases of the Low Raised Jungle on the High Raised Jungle. So far, I haven't found the solution for some corners, they seem to keep give the usual Raised Jungle vision. Anyways, that's it :P

good freakin idea. It always bugged me that raised jungle doesnt block vision.

Hm. Maybe you could use high jungle on the edges of where you can walk to make it seem so dense that you can't see through it? And that way you can use less trees? Especially since reg jungle looks just the same as high jungle? That's all i can think of really.

That'll fuck up the pathfinding system. It's really annoying when you want a unit to go somewhere and it won't follow a straight line :P

@Madroc: Well... thanks for the try, but this isn't what I'm searching for at all xD
You aren't even using Raised Jungle while I said I wanted the use of Raised Jungle :P
And in order to achieve a better ambiance effect, you must obviously play with vision:

Use this little terraining hint and blind the player and you should be able to create a good thing ;)

@Others: How's the development going? :P

Almost done. Im going to include some jungle doodad type things to make empty spots seem more cluttered, you can just copy/paste them into your map.

Okay, I'm done with -my- version of the forest. I've attached it. See how you like it. Leave comments.
I still want/need to see your submissions, guys :D
To see correctly how I designed my forest, you'll need to open it in SCMDraft and select in "Display Options" the "Permanent Fog of War" option. Once there, select the "Player 8" (right under "Windows" label). This is for the part 2. For the part 1 of the forest, it's "Player 5".

383 sprites used/499 ;o

samsizzle did a -really- good job.
Here is his submission.

Do not steal his terrain, I'm using it for my second forest ^^
