In my Current Map I have Pylons set every 28 Spaces apart that have Landmarks and buildings around them in a 14 space Square. If the Player moves to this 14 Square Space, they are centered on a Reaver that must traverse across small 3x28 Strip. After completing the movement, are centered back upon the Pylon that NOW stands for your army. All buildings that were around now belong to You(Your Affiliate Army) There are currently 5 types of Buildings that Each do something different. My First completed Strategic Position(Now referred to as 'FLAG') Has a (Income) Revenue Vault(((Robotics Facility))) that generates ore for the players(10 a second).
Here are my other ideas:
(Warp) Home Beacon: One way Trip back to the Affiliate Army Base (((Arbitor Tribunal)))
(Spawn) Strategic Home: Will spawn a Special Hard Hitter every so often(or whatever..)(((Nexus)))
(Defense) Strategic Turret: Layers of 3 Photon Cannons with minimal Damage(Enough of them though..)
(Heal) Strategic Medical Facility: Heals every 10 or so seconds all allies.(((Fleat Beacon)))

However..this is not enough: I require interesting twists to gaining strategy in war. Locations that would mean something to acquire in turning tables or giving the Sword that extra Edge.
Heres my current thoughts:
(Special Spawn) Allows Players to recruit Rare units
(Heavy Cannon) Sends a strategically Placed Pulse/bomb that drops enemies HP's into the 10's. Can be used every minute.
(Special Building) Perhaps they can acquire Training facilities or other interesting buildings

Heres something to kindof go-by:
FLAG: 'Oasis': Heal, Home Warp, 2x3 Defense turrets
Small walls that can be climbed encircle a small Diamond Oasis. 'A Getaway from War. . .'

if anyone has some Cool ideas, Throw-em my way! Im currently working on just placing the FLAG above.

Just here for the pie

You should have outposts with capture able healing areas. I did it in a map of mine and I made it so that the medics there only healed 1 every 3 seconds. If you wanna know how, just ask me. I understand that you already have healing areas, but I assumed that it just healed everything to %100.

Yea, but its timed for every few seconds so not to spam 100%
(((GAH, it drives me mad that i cant think of cool ideas: there's more to war than killing, healing, rinse, repeat)))
More Ideas: Sniper Towers(Man-able Bunkers
Communications tower: Give Player Map Revealers at the enemies base if captured. Also a Comsat System could sit there
Maybe Include a broken down building that is inflicted with Radiation from the nuke(storyline) and turn it into a mini-quest then upon pushing through the swarms of Mutant Undead(Idea) get to the top and control a powerful location like a secondary base with All the Fixin's. Resource is a big deal, strategy is a big deal. the players are going to do special tasks to acquire hard to get Bases.

Ideas now: Bring 3 Marines and 1 SCV to the area and have atleast 1000 ore for you to acquire this base for Repairs and things. stuff like that..oho

WAIT, no, i need ideas for cool gadgets to fit into these bases and cool ideas to give players. Im going to go play some SC maps for ideas..x_x;

So this is RISK, but expanded more into an RTS feel?

Could you explain the story of the map, and more of what kind of map it is? If there's a tech tree anything like the ones in Imperialism, Rule of the Dollar, Timeline Diplomacy, or Civilization, (yes, these are all different tech trees) there could be some kind of university that gives you research points.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Skimming through this really quick, I saw that you didn't just want to have a "killing, healing, rinse, repeat" game.
To avoid this, you could just go to the background of how a war works. A simple way to do that, would be to add something like supply lines?
I think it would be cool to have an RTS-type game that effectively implemented supply lines that have to be (planned?) protected and used.

In addition, you could add a system based on how much intelligence u gather on the enemy, giving you added bonuses if you obtained more intel on them then they do on you.

To New-Guy:
Supply lines! indeed..supply routes and such! Interesting..I had the idea of having certain buildings with 'resources' that allow certain kinds of upgrades to your army or defenses of sorts. perhaps a boost in power or something..It would be interesting to have supply routes that can be attacked or defended.
To Norm: Ah yes, intel would be pretty amazing. taking directly from Dynasty Warriors: Ambush locations, Secret Weapons, Trade Routes, Leaders currently at where, bases owned and more.

The problem is that my idea was to have a raging ARMY VS. ARMY war with hundreds of units colliding in all different directions...here's another problem i have where my armies seem to ball up and dont really 'collide' as much as i want. maybe i should have few units that maybe grow over time? its very delicate but:::I want to provide something for everyone!
This will probably be a tough feat...uhg.
