Ling 'n' Rine Productions presents:

Warlords
Desert

A new map based mostly off of Dynasty Warriors, but with a fresh StarCraft approach. Capture bases with your hero, or your armies, and fight for total control!

Specs:

x The map is 4v4, with absoutely NO computer players. Each player will have a Hero unit, and two Sub Commanders, each with their own army under their command.

x Under each of the Sub Commanders, there are five unit types. They are Zealots, Zerglings, Dark Templars, Hydralisks, and Hero Ghosts. The second unit for each player will have hero counterparts for the normal units, so that they work correctly with the AI.

x The players will ONLY be able to control their Hero. The remainder of their units are controlled by the "Minimap" on the left side of the map. There, the players will be able to issue the orders for their troops, quickly, so they can return to controlling their hero.

x There are 27 different capture points on the map, each unique with their abilities, such as providing tactically placed Catapults (Tanks) near bases, or providing a solid defensive gate that'll allow a player to focus on restoring their troops while the countless legions advance.

x Players will level based off of kills made by their armies, allowing them to assign points into seven unique stats.

Map Specifics:

- 192x192 Map size.

- 8 player map. Suggested 6 player minimum.

- 6 Heroes to choose from, each with 3 unique spells each, and a fourth to summon and mount the player's Horse.

- Total AI control over everything except the player's hero.

- "Minimap" to command the AI troops across the battlefield.

- 27 total capture points. 2 Main Bases, 9 Supply Bases, 4 Defense Bases, 4 Attack Bases, and 8 Troop Gates. Each has a specific bonus, except the Main Bases; they have the features of everything except the Troop Gates.

Story:

It is the dawn of a newer age. People fight with new weapons each year, and are trained to be faster, stronger, and more deadly. Some people seek power, and desire to rule the land. Thats where your story begins. Each team fights for dominance over a large battlefield for the claims to the land, no matter how barren or how lush it is. It is their land, and will be so as long as they fight and die for it.

Start as a Commander of a unit of two smaller units, who are outfitted decently, and trained to fight till the bitter end. You must fight for dominance over the land and prove your might along with up to three others, in an attempt to rule the land for yourself! But before you are able to rule the land, you must fight and control it, as up to four others command an army much like your own.. Time will tell who the stronger will be.

A map not made with DM!? Impossible!

I can already imagine DM MIGHT help with massing some of the triggers. But no, I'm planning on doing this one by myself.

Then good luck to you ^^

There aren't much desert terrain maps around anymore.

None.

Which is what influenced my decision to use the Desert Tileset. I felt it would make a good first impression.

Edit: Progressions added. Hopefully it should give everyone an idea to how far the map has gone so far.

Looks good, a very interesting style. My main suggestion is to make sure that the game keeps a decent pace. If your armies take too long to move with the minimap, or the capture points are too widespread, the game will be boring. So keep the map size small and the action high, and I think this concept is a really good one.

Misc: Make the minimap feature easy to use and responsive, so players don't end up with huge amounts of troops. The Goliath hero looks overpowered to me on balance issues, but that's obviously not a main concern at the moment. =p

Can you explain how the squads work? I don't quite understand them.

None.

Apr 18 2009, 6:47 am Lingie Post #9

Righto. The squads are both divided into 6 units. 1st squad has the Zealot, Zergling, Hydralisk, DT, and Duran. Its lead by Gui Montag. 2nd squad is made up of Fenix, Devouring Ones, Hero DTs, Hunter Killers, and Alexei Stukovs. Also lead, this time by Kerrigan. The point of this is so that at all times, each player has the option to move their troops through two seperate orders (or masses, if rathered) by using the minimap. The shuttles aren't there in the picture, but basically, each spot that ISN'T the standard Desert ground tiles marks a base. All oif the bases are all less then 40 tiles apart I believe.

As for Map size and action, I can assure you that the map fit well for the 192x192 that it is, and that troops should be attack each other within a minute of game start, if the players know what they're doing.

Also, about the Goliath. This is meerly a rough balance for now. I've yet to get any extensive tests with heroes or their effect on the armies, but I can probably guarentee a change in its stats in the near future.

Predator of Bed Chambers

Looking good DL, maybe ya could add cloaked beacons in your command hub so we know which point is capture points.

Other then that good luck with your map mate.

If all else fails, crowbar the fucker

Relatively ancient and inactive

Huh. Don't you think that you inflated the numbers a bit? You can very easily cut every number up there in half, maybe more with some adjustment. No need for 6000-life heroes.

Why not use the normal DT for the Commander and Zeratul/hero DT for these units? Then they'd have the same speed.

Also, do the DTs have cloaking, or did you uncloak them with shared vision? I don't see any Detector units so invisible DTs would probably be epicly OP.

All players share vision at all times. Also, Zeratul attacks almost, if not twice as fast as the other two DT's. That would be a no-no.

Also, thanks Moogle. I might add beacons if the Minimap is too hard to read from the terrian differences.

Also Centreri. Your hero will start with 10~20% of its max HP. I'm sure the epic jumps will be neccessary if you actually want to survive against an army.

The only part colored in red is a little cliche, "faster, stronger, and more deadly" is fine but you might change deadly but it isn't really necessary,
the only part which really threw me off was "People fight with new(er) weapons each year", nothing wrong with it but it sound incredibly cliche.

Spelling Errors
- "Thats where your story begins", not a big error, its not a biggie but the proper term is that's
( 's meaning belongs to someone its is ok but thats is improper grammar )
- People fight with new weapons each year umm as stated above its "newer"

the first green convoys a very strong image in the mind :D
the red is also a little cliche

Spelling errors
- " in an attempt to rull" lol? its rule not rull? (hey no ones perfect)
- Time will tell who the stronger will be again not a biggie might want to add "only" at the beginning to make the message stand out a bit same with "one"
"Only" time will tell who the stronger "One" will be"

Good luck on this map and any future ambitions you might have, I've helped you to the best of my abilities, overall you give a clean idea of what the map might, a little idea for a spin off map is its a single player campaign that plays out the rpg whereas it switches to both sides on differing maps

While yes, I do appriciate people reading a more "filler" part of my topic, I simply wrote the Story segment in a minute, on a Laptop, caring less about cliche. Yeah, big typo there, fixed now.

Other then that, yes, I would enjoy taking this to higher levels. 4v4 Players vs Computers like some of the Dynasty Warriors maps on SC, and who knows what else.

...Or my final plan. DW: Empires style Tournaments. People would choose a start, and battle each other over 10 ~ 30 different maps for total control.

So make it 10-20% of 3000 and halve everything else. You have really inflated numbers there.
