I was wondering if anyone was interested in working on an Open RPG. I currently don't have Starcraft at the moment, but I'm working on getting it off uTorrent. I have my last CD Key from my old copy but I stepped on it and snapped it in half... Anyways, about the new Open RPG. The RPG that I would like to get started doesn't have a story line thats finished, but I would like to have it based on two Terran forces competing against eachother and one of them is working on an experiment and this experiment creates a mutation (Zerg). I'm trying not to use a lot of Protoss, but I want them for special effects or robotics or even a hero.
Tile Set:
Space or Jungle
I would like to have someone who is a better map maker than I... This way I can improve my tactics on making maps and advanced triggers.
I should have Starcraft up and running by the end of this week (hopefully).
Help Needed:
- Terrain
- Triggers
- Detailed Story Maker
- Ideas (Most important)
- Testers (Also as important)

You say you're looking for a story? Isn't it the point of an Open RPG to not have a story, but have the characters do what they want?

Don't you think that every RPG has a story to it? Think of The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion... That game has a good story to it, and it's open, same with Mass Effect, Fallout III, Diablo II, World of Warcraft... I could keep going if you want? Did I prove my point?

I'd prefer it if it was kept the discussion here in this thread. I refuse to believe that any SC map idea is so awesome that it must be kept secret out of fear(I'm an OS kinda guy too), I'm also old enough to know that there aren't people lurking in the shadows just waiting to pounce on and steal concepts. Regardless of the fact that you mentioned many non-open ended games with stories, your underlying premise is correct that it is possible to it be open ended and have a story.
ClansAreForGays is correct, and Oblivion is a valid example. But its not like a black and white thing, theres a grey-scale.
Legend Of Zelda, OoT is Linear-
Diablo II is Linear mostly, but a BIT more open than Legend Of Zelda.
PokeMon is ... debateable... But Quite Linear.
