Starcraft and Brood War Patch Information

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- patch 1.16.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feature Changes

- In-game Speed Options menu now has a "Enable CPU Throttling" checkbox.
Enabling this option will allow StarCraft to consume fewer CPU cycles. By
default this option is off.

Bug Fixes

- Fixed an issue with the reply feature where any character followed by a "r "
was being treated as a reply.
- Removed an unnecessary delay when processing palette cycling updates.
- Lessened the imposed delay in the CPU Throttling feature.

I for one will keep CPU usage low still. It seems Blizzard does listen if the cry is loud enough, and in Korean.

Have the offsets changed?

I just checked and it seems like they have.

New patch: In other words, fuck you DoA!

I'd assume that offsets would have changed, that CPU throttling thing would probably be a pretty big change to the source.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

mouse position detection still works.

And finally, my Starcraft runs better on Vista than with 1.15.2... no more lags while scrolling over simple terrain :P

CPU throttling already existed, you can just toggle it now.

Disabling it improves performance here.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

God, I thought something was wrong with my internet, since there was a delay in the chatroom/join screen, and nobody else seemed to notice. Best patch ever.

units pointers are in the same place.

It's not a big deal, I don't think DoA has started on that stuff yet.

You would think that Blizzard would put a bit more bang in this patch because of all the not so patient people waiting for Starcraft 2. Maybe a new unit... fat chance

:payne:

What concretely do the throttling thing?

None.

throttling feature:

Starcraft uses some waits in the cpu (=time that Starcraft "sleeps").

for faster computers:
-enabled = it lags
-disabled = no lags

for slow computers:
-enabled = starcraft may lag more, but you are able to run other programs in the background, maybe sc lags less and is more stable (I don't know that)
-disabled = more or less same performance like in 1.15

correct me please, if I'm wrong. I just wrote what I know or think to know ;P.

Nice grammar...Anyways, I believe it is a switch for having delays between info being processed and it being shown...when it's off, the game is smooth because there isn't any delay...when it's on, the game looks choppier because the info is being basically sat on for a brief period [think milliseconds]

Example:
ON: a marine shoots another marine, killing the second. The first marine may shoot, and then there's a short delay, then the sprite, sound, unit's HP drop, and marine death occurs

OFF: same scenario, except between the shot of the first marine and the death of the second is only noticeable in very, very slow/laggy gameplay, such as is you're slowing down the time in single player or your computer sucks balls over B.net

Yea, the EUDs I checked that use those still work. Selection detection doesn't work.

Actually I don't think the unit pointers are in the same place, because other EUDs that should work if the unit pointers haven't changed are not working. And the HP detection I've used is working ingame, but I can't find the HP value in artmoney :/

Yay, no more lobby lag. Also, EUDs relating to screen detection are still the same.

None.

Jan 22 2009, 11:24 am Clokr_ Post #20

Actually nvm, I get it. If it is disabled SC will take up a whole processor and no other program will be able to use it. If it is enabled it may lag on old comps but on new ones it'll use like 15% of the processor time and the rest is available for the rest of programs.
