Ok, since nobody liked my previous poll, I guess I'll make a more serious one.

So, what do you plan on studying after highschool? OR what are you currently studying/doing? I know there's tons of things you can do out there so I'm sorry if I left out anything else, but I tried to make a list of what I think would be the more common ones.

Right now, I am studying in engineering. Why? Well let's compare with the other possibilities in my list...

- Yes, I like the sciences, but I felt as though I'd rather apply these principles than to develop or research them.
- Business doesn't really interest me. IMO it's for people who only want easy money in the future
- I find it more rewarding to contribute to the quality of life than contributing to the gaming/nerd world. Besides, competition is high.
- I didn't want to be a noob for life and do computer science.
- Health/Medince seems too routine for me. You basically have to memorize alot of stuff, and frankly that's just not for me.
- Liberal/Fine arts. First I'm not good in anything related to those, and secondly, unless you are the best I think it would be hard to find a job with these degrees
- I am neither a loquacious nor verbal person, so I can't do law. And again, it's not really my type of thing
- Architecture really caught my eye, but it's quite tough to get into (and at the time, my GPA/ranks were terrible in HS). But besides, I'm more of a math and science dude, so I think Civil engineering is a better path for me, they make more money too :D.
- I can't teach for shit. Education is out.
- I don't really want to deal with people too much, so I didn't want to do Communication

No. I actually don't know in your country but in here no.

Architecture also has maths so you could have gone that way and you'd have been just fine, just not as much as a civil.
I study architecture by the way.

fuck you all

As far as I know and have researched, Architects make less money here. But not by much though :P

But also, I wanted to leave my options open. Transportation, construction, environmental, or even water/oceanic engineering, all are of good interest to me. No matter what I do, there will always be a job with my degree (that is if we don't enter another great depression). But also alot of structural engineers (which is probably the most common subdiscipline of civl) work directly with architects. Half the newly graduated students from my university will enter architecture firms and do plenty of CAD work. A few of my friends are studying architecture as well, but their math/science knowledge pales in comparison with mine >=D

What's the D stand for? :wtfage:

Engineering, probably. I still haven't really decided (which is sad). Possibly computer science.

I'm aiming around game design and computer science. But for my actual occupation, I'm looking toward a niche in New Media.

I was in that same position a while back (not knowing which engineering discipline to do) but here's how I looked at it:

If you want job variety, do Mechanical
If you want job security, do Civil
If you love doing and dealing with Computers, circuits, machinery, do EE
If you want Aerospace, do mechanical. An ME can easily do stuff an Aerospace can, it doesn't always work the other way.
If you love chemistry, then i guess it should be obvious that it's ChemE. However, I feel as though this discipline focuses less on design and more on synthesis.
Ultimately, if you are unsure exactly of what they are truly passionate about, I think the default choice is Mechanical.
There's more, but those are the mainstream ones. :P

And this helps too: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos027.htm

My university actually has a Computer Engineering. Personally I'd pick EE over CS as IMO i feel as though it would be easier to find a job with this degree, but again that's just me :P.

I want to become a Pyrotechnician/Special Effects Technician, which you can usually get into through theater. You need to do a year of apprenticeship, and in PA you need a license to carry firearms to be a pyrotechnician.

I think I'm gonna get an engineering degree to fall back on, probably in electronics (pyrotechnics are generally set off electronically). I actually still don't quite understand what, exactly, "engineering" entails. :P

I also want to take up carpentry and do an apprenticeship with a trained luthier (stringed instrument maker). That's kind of my intended "side hobby". You can actually make some good money doing special effects work.

Technically math falls under the "sciences" category. The math department for most schools should be under natural sciences.

Engineering is the practical application of math and science :P. They use the tools and ideas/theorems scientists provide and develop new technologies and innovative designs to our world.

I think the important thing to know is exactly what kind of math and science you will be taking on for certain disciplines of engineering. Mechanical, Civil, and Aerospace focus more on the mechanical aspect of physics, like forces, energy, thermodynamics, etc. Electrical Engineering and Computer Science focus more on the E&M aspect of physics (well, not really, but more so than the other disciplines) and have a possibly even greater emphasis on advanced math and calculus like Differential Equations Calculus (aka DiffEQ), discrete mathematics, linear algebra, etc.

Well Echo we should, but in order to do that you're going to have to tell me your real name and sell your soul to me on facebook ;)

I actually have heard of schools which provide courses and minors like that. I believe Civil Engineering has a bunch of those classes
