Okay, so I know screenshots are supposed to be posted, but really, there is nothing to the game yet, except for thousands of triggers and the majority of a quite large final fantasy style combat system. Here's a quick outline of the plot so far, my buddy Psychic Genius helped me with it last night, and its still quite malleable.

So, a few thousand years in to the future, human technology surpasses the amount require to begin colonizing planets, and that's just what they do. Slowly, solar system by solar system, humans reach out, bringing life to barren wastelands, colonizing, in search of some other life. Eventually their search leads them to the middle of the milky way galaxy. In it, there is not a black hole, but instead a planet so massive, stars themselves orbit it. What's better, is that they see life on this planet. So, they begin a rush to it, thousands of ships, filled with war heroes, scientists, masses of people, begin to head there. Something goes wrong. Few ships land, and of them, a single ship lands in a massive forest, filled with natural resources and wonders. There are three heavily trained soldiers aboard, one scientist and one field commander. They set out to find other ships, and to repair damages to their own. Soon, they realize that, this planet is no earth, this planet is the fountain of all life, and on it's surface rests those who would cleanse the human race from the galaxy.

The players will go through various challenges, mentally and with skill. There will be a sort of magic available, as well as bionic enhancements, special weapons and all that jazz. The game will be one of discovery and fighting, and will be a single 3 player RPG, with a definite ending. It will most likely have my full extended terrain, the combat engine, and a storyline composed by psychic genius and myself.

I really am posting this to get people to download and test the combat engine. So far, it works for 3 players, the spells work, barring the epic spells, and the special abilities and items don't have any effect. The dark spell poison damage has not been scripted in to the engine, and the green spell that summons animals is not functional either. Other then that, 1-3 players can run around killing hydralisks and zerglings with magic and the fight move. There is no storyline written yet within the triggers, and at the beginning you have to follow the instruction (yes, singular not plural) as well as hotkey your dropship. Your unit to fight with is in the middle of the map, move it up or to the left to start, though enemies are all over, randomly placed. Enjoy, and tell me any suggestions you may have, as well as any bugs that come up.

The elemental spells do damage and have a few other effects, the dark spells usually reduce enemy combat capabilities, the light spells head and the green spells are a bit different, read the name, restoration works only later on when it cures you of status ailments.

Predator of Bed Chambers

Combat system seems pretty well done. I like the " wait bar " and way " Health " is displayed, makes it feel like FF =). Seems like your going to add a lot of spells to it? since all virtual damage and easy add sfx. Enemy health bar was nice as well.

I enjoyed what I've seen so far and all I can say is good luck with it ^^ make this moogle happy with joy for FF!

I was also caught in endless loop battle with a zergling spawned like 12 times and I had 0 health.

If all else fails, crowbar the fucker

I remember PMing you on Maplantis about this when you asked for testers.

Sounds good! *downloads*

EDIT: Confusing, to say the least..

Is the display at the bottom my HP, or the enemy's? What do gas and minerals represent?

Well, of course so far there's no tutorial in it, but thestuff in your colour applies to you, the stuff in enemy color applies to them.

Minerals is MP, gas is AP, which will be added later when I make special stuff.

So far the plan is to leave the game at 27 spells, they do take a while to make and I can't let the selection system become too convoluted. The ones that are there and working are the ones that will remain in, though I am planning on replacing the green summoning one, because the triggering will mess up some other elements.

When you have 0 health, disregard things that happen, cause the game isn't set up for that. I'm also planning on adding you guys to the testers, cause I'm gonna need a longer credits at the end =P

Relatively ancient and inactive

Very nice system, but you wait for energy too long. I'd make attacks/abilities weaker but so you can keep using them. It gets annoying.

I really like your story line.
Only weird part of it is 'massive' amounts of people are coming but theres only 5 people per ship?

Just reading the storyline makes me wanna play it though. :P

So will this be an open source engine, or will you make it into a game?

Heh, well if you read the beginning it's gonna be made in to a game, though I plan on completing the engine before adding storyline.

Cheathunter, if you follow the correct instructions to get the blue wireframe, then enemies will pop up and you will be able to fight them.

Sarge, yeah, the idea was that there were only 3 soldiers with the group, and that the rest were just colony civilians, who can't really help with the exploration due to serious lack of bionic stuff and training.

Ah, well. :|
*goes to try to make own turn based engine*
*fails*

Looking forward to the game though. =)
Also, I noticed you have many repetitive triggers which you seem to have done manually...You should really try to use a trigger duplicator, or learn Visual Basic (can do some really leet stuff. Look at the attached map for an example. Hundreds of thousands of triggers, done with Visual Basic (couldn't be done in a regular trigger duplicator)).

Well, I will post the engine when it's finished, for sure, and if you want to use it for some specific purpose I could give you the deaths list, of course provided that I got credits and that you had a really good story to make.

For the record, those trigs are not done manually, I use microsoft word and the find and replace tool to get it done. Usually I can do about one "mechanic" per day, for example, enemies doing spell damage to players is a mechanic. At this rate, progress is slow, but this is not the kind of thing you can use a java based string outputter for. Though of course it may be a good idea to look at, seeing as I have enough java experience to make something generate one big long string for me.
