DLDB managing has always been an annoying task, so make sure you are up for it!
Even though files no longer need approval, file checking is still a necessity.
Brief overview of responsibilities:
  • Keeping tags clean (kill member names, stupid tags, etc)*[/*]
  • Check poorly rated files and maybe some random testing to ensure files are of decent quality[/*]
  • Virus testing of programs*[/*]
  • Making thumbnails for files that have none*[/*]
  • Doing file and/or comment reports[/*]
  • Brainstorming for ideas how to make the DLDB better*[/*]
  • Bug testing on SEN's developmental site for new/changed features*[/*]

Post your desire of intent and what you think you bring to the table.
*: note, you can already do this on unlocked files, as the dldb is open file editing. Such experience may be helpful. The only exception is locked files, which you'll be able to bypass naturally.

But who would do that? There's really nothing to gain, it's just a database. And anyone that appreciates the purpose of what a database is for would welcome any map no matter who made it as long as it's not trash.

Even if somehow this issue does occur, it could easily be reported to the admins. Having a DLDB manager isn't a new concept, so there shouldn't be any unexpected issues.

Well like I said it isn't a BIG issue but,it is always possible :P.I just like to show the negatives :).

Anyways back on topic,I could always mod.

Edit:
* Keeping tags clean (kill member names, stupid tags, etc)*Sure thats simple
* Check poorly rated files and maybe some random testing to ensure files are of decent quality*Again simple enough
* Virus testing of programs*With firefox3 and its plugins yeah
* Making thumbnails for files that have none*Explain that isn't connecting >.>.
* Doing file and/or comment reports*I love doing this :).
* Brainstorming for ideas how to make the DLDB better*I already have ideas ;).
* Bug testing on SEN's developmental site for new/changed features*Whenever I have a chance ok.

Ok I didn't think I was going to say anything ,but I guess I will. Why the heck did you put MAYBE by virus testing....
All you have to do at the least is use firefox2 or 3 to download the files and check for viruses.Sure it isn't the best way ,but it checks.

I would be interested in doing this. I could be good at tag editing/reviews/commenting on completed projects based on the wide variety of maps that interest me. Everything besides the Virus thing would be easy. I don't know much about them, just that not to download 'em. :D How would one spot a virus? ( Keep in mind I don't have the knowledge of a modder/experienced person with computers )

No it's not, that's when DLDB managers get fired.

And the chances someone that retarded and untrustworthy would ever get hired in the first place are slim to none.

I could perform all the tasks. It would be a good way to get back my activity on Starcraft, in any case.

..if that's a good thing.

Maybe a mac user could check mac only stuff, so maybe have a mac user doing some checking.. Unless the keeper has a mac emulator :P or a mac user has bootcamp. Just an idea.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

You know I'd be glad to take over the database :shifty:

fuck you all

As long as it isn't looking at every single file that gets submitted, I should have the time.

I have months of prior experience doing same, etc.

I don't have really any arguement as to why I should be a DLDB manager, except that I have the time and ability to do the tasks specified.

[EDIT]
I guess I missed the format for applying:
Keeping tags clean (kill member names, stupid tags, etc)/Ya, I can do this
Check poorly rated files and maybe some random testing to ensure files are of decent quality/Yes, I LOVE RANDOM TESTING, I do it anyways ;)
Virus testing of programs/Simple enough
Making thumbnails for files that have none/Not the best artist, but when I can't find something, I can convey a rought point
Doing file and/or comment reports/Don't usually make comments on things but when I do, I can usually combine constructive criticism with praise
Brainstorming for ideas how to make the DLDB better/I usually have a suggestion on things that can be improved
Bug testing on SEN's developmental site for new/changed features/ I love bug testing as well, I also do that!!

I haven't really thought about it ;o
I did come up with some ideas since you asked. For ultra crappy tags, I'm thinking there will be a tag management section where you can define when and how the tag should be used... and also simply eradicate a tag from all the files.
A listing of the poorly rated files, with the ability to mark them as checked by you so you don't do check it again.
I'm thinking maybe a forum just for the dldb team to talk about things like tag etiquette and dldb improvements.
