Hey guys if there are any half- life fans out there I know you guys must be as exited as I am for the final episode. What really got me going crazy over it is the new rumor that the PORTAL gun will be featured in it. HOW OWNAGE IS THAT!?! :uberw00t:
If you think about it, it makes prefect sense.

***SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED EPISODE 2***
At the end of episode 2, you are on your way to a cargo ship located in the arctic, the cargo ship is made by Black Mesa's rival company, the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. This is the company that runs the testing in the game PORTAL. It would also make sense for Valve to make a mini-game like PORTAL to put the gun to the test and to see if it gets positive feedback from gamers. If this is true, then episode 3 will be EPIC!!
Anyone else who has any information regarding this topic, please post.

I doubt ep3 will have the gun.
But it will definitely involve aperture science, arctic wastes, cold-crabs, barney??? advisors, explosions, combine, and maybe, just maybe. GLaDoS.

Portal was already under development seperately of Valve when they hired on the game's designers. I think it's more likely that they simply capitalized on this.

Ep3 having portals concurrent with shooter elements could redefine FPS. But I fear it's too much to ask for players to adapt to playing standard FPS and bending their minds around the use of portal technology concurrently. In terms of logical gameplay, there's only so much a player can physically handle at once.

If they find a way to pull it off well, though, there'd be nothing more epic. :P

I think there'll be 'static' portal combat, if any, [similar to Prey] portals that are preplaced that you can shoot through etc.

Its hardly going to redefine FPS games but its not a rumor the portal gun will be in Ep3.

I'd like a source to that please?

And adding the portal gun to Portal redefined commercial puzzle games.
If done right, it will revolutionise FPS, and if VALVe don't do it, someone else will, badly [EA].

Why can't there be a Half-Life 3 with a complete new Source Engine?

Are you sure about that?

Valve said, that they spent 10 years to get HL2 ever since HL1 was released, and that they were not planning to spend another 10 years for HL2 ep2, nor HL2 ep3

this is signature

Yeah but that was because they had to make the entire engine to run the game. The episodes are merely additions with minor improvements in things graphics.

Really looking forward to ep3. Valve does it just like in TV series; en each episode with a lot of unanswered questions. I also hope, sometime in the future, that they will make a HL3.

No it wasn't. Portal is the spiritual successor to a freeware game made by a team from some school that Valve absorbed and said "We liked that. Let's make a better one." to.

Garry is going to start using a freeware engine for a new game he's going to make, I can't remember the name of the engine, but it has dynamic terrain [craters]. He hasn't said what he's doing, but I'm guessing just a gmod game that's pure sandbox.

I believe this, as he said GMod isn't being developed further and 10 is the final version.

Yup.
Although he's still gunna be constantly patching, sandbox games require a lot of tweaking...
