Merge = 1

IP Code = 1
Does that settle it? The majority of people on Maplantis have expressed my view. Sepcifically this quote from Doodan.
I think it's better for the community at large if the sites joined. Sure, a few peoples' feelings may be hurt, but people who refuse to visit an information resource due to "principles" are clearly putting their own interests above the community's anyways in most cases.
You can't please everyone. It's impossible. However, I believe it would be a service to the majority of current mapmakers and the massive increase of them that will come with SC2 if the mapmaking community works together.

I'm sure I've made my views clear before, but I'd love a merge of SEN and Maplantis.
Benefits:
1) Focused mapping 'researchers', would allow for concentration of information as we play around with SCII (when it comes out) instead of some overlapping 'research'.
2) Focused Help forums so people don't make two topics every time they need something to be known to the whole community.
3) No competition. A few members of each community treat the opposite communities with disdain - if we merge, that simply won't happen. Not competition, collaboration.
4) Database merging, single-moderation-team. Larger selection of maps/programs, more uploaders, and less required total moderators.
5) Pretty much destined to be the #1 place for SC and SCII mapping
.
Bad Stuff:
1) Software Integration. I think this is the most serious problem. Currently, Maplantis has more features, though IP's making changes faster. Figuring this out is most of the trubble, in my opinion.
2) Differing Memberships... Come off it. We've had hypocritical Maplantis members (Saddler.. on two levels), we've had hypocritical SEN members. If someone can actually point out a real difference, I'll give you a cookie.
3) Forum Differences. Maplantis is a bit more compact - off-topic isn't separated, stuff like that. All I ask for is that you keep the Serious Discussion and Light Discussion - it brings us together as a community. And is interesting to argue in. Maplantis has it lumped together with forum games, which is a bit annoying.
4) Err.. wut?

The expanded community would be nice, but what would the name of the merged site be? I don't go to Maplantis, since I'm devoted to SEN, so I don't know what they are talking about there...

However we do it, let's do it right and let's be serious about it. SC2 is around the bend. CAFG was right that we shouldn't let rubber band and glue WC3 sites take over on our turf.

/Agree... I think that we should do whatever it takes to try to bring back the ways of SEN v4, which was the good ways. There were always people active and there was always something going on within the community. Maybe this is the sign of the calling in which we can begin to bring that old way back to reality...

We should not strive for what has passed. I remember when I first joined SEN. The old members at the time where always griping about how SEN was dying, and to them, summer 2004 was the best time. The past is gone. Striving for it is pointless and a waste of energy. The only thing the past should be is a lesson, and we should use the lessons to make the best possible future.

/me hopes this isn't another April Fools joke.

Merge but keep some things half SEN and half Maplantis. If it's possible in coding, half latova and half I.P's, plan.
I visualize it like this.
edit: grr imageshack isnt working so ill have to attach it.

JordanN, I don't want to have to say this, but.. it's not really practical, that's ugly, and I hope you're being sarcastic.

If we do not stand together, we shall be konkered by the WCIII mapping giants.
Clearly I'm the conservative on site things around here, but I'm of the opinion "merger" is the wrong word. Maplantis split off of SEN, and I think that if two sites should be one, SEN should essentially again absorb Maplantis. That's not to say that we should kill everything Maplantis has now - in fact, they practically walked off with the better part of the intellectual community in spring 2007.
I think that the site should remain "Staredit Network" on this domain and skin, etc., however we should definitely acquire some of Maplantis's most innovative features, especially the wiki.
I think this is actually what a lot of people have in mind, but the word "merge" makes me think of renaming the site to something utterly retarded that is a portmanteau of "Staredit Network" and "Maplantis". Also, I think SEN would benefit from Maplantis's active staff, seeing as we don't really have any decent moderators apart from our admins (not to knock anyone personally, but there hasn't been much of a sense of law and order since this 'v5' launched).
Eww. Conservative. I think we should stick to IP's coding, as well as some other stuff, because it's being worked on much more rapidly, and its more specialized, not generalized, like Yoshi's is. I agree about just about everything else, though I think we should take more from Maplantis, which is really a great piece of software (And community, you can't forget that). I think we should make a Maplantis-esque skin, adjust moderation practices to fit with Maplantis's (I saw one consistent spammer there.. one!), implement some of their DLDB features, Wiki (of course), etc. We need to merge the policies of both websites.

I think we should stay seperate, we're two very differently themed boards, even if we share most of the same patrons and subjects.
They're a different community now, and I fully respect that, and the fact that their entire system is completely different to SENs really doesn't help.
I'd love to see the maplantis community on SEN, but a merge... It just wouldn't work imo.

The whole point is to combine the two communities into one, better community.
None.
But weren't we originally one community.
Look how that turned out.

Maybe we are all a little bit more mature now, and we can try it again.

Just here for the activity... well not really
Maybe
we most of us are all a little bit more mature now, and we can try it again.
