sorry if this is a basic question.
I have a Treasure Beetle critter in my RPG that I want to give random rewards when killed. staredit doesn't seem to track critter deaths under a player, however. do I need to give the critters to a player first so the deaths can be tracked like regular units?
thanks!

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch
Critters are usually owned by P12. See if the triggers can detect it for P12.
If you're using staredit (don't), you might have to list the player as 'neutral' rather than 'player 12', though they mean the same thing.

I've just recently got back into mapmaking, so yeah I'm using staredit XD curious to know if scmdraft2 is compatible with the latest versions of sc? 1.18 ptr and beyond

When setting up a profile, load your 1.16.1 StarDat mpq file and move it to the top of the mpq listing. Then load the 1.18 mpqs, keeping them underneath the 1.16.1 mpq, and it should work.
I'll give it a shot. thanks!

Blizzard may have fixed the SCMDraft crash without needing a 1.16.1 mpq. Update to the newest version of PTR and see if it works.
it's working, but I can't seem to name new switches in scmdraft. tried in both trigger and string editors, names don't stick. any ideas?

the "improved" trigger editor in scm2 is quite buggy for me

Make sure you're running the latest version. Switch names work fine for me in classic triggers (I don't use text triggers).

the move units, move location, and give units triggers also seem buggy.
I'm also running it in Wine, which could be the entire problem (stubborn mac user). I will redownload the latest version.

seems like I have the latest ver (0.8.0). must be Wine's fault.

Latest SCMDraft (... I think), SI's around if you can catch him for a bug report.
You can try
Chkdraft Chkdraft (newer) for switch & trigger editing if you can't get SCMD working.

chkdraft seems pretty rad. any reason I should need scmdraft in addition, or can chk do pretty much everything?
EDIT: answered my own Q... chk doesn't seem to do terrain.

Glad you like it; but it's not finished; so you should use SCMDraft at least for the terrain, doodads, sprites, fog, and briefing

For SCMDraft troubleshooting, create a profile that uses the 1.16.1 mpqs and test what was throwing errors earlier. If it's fixed, it's likely due to 1.18. If it's still broken, it's wine.

it wasn't erroring per se, just lumping parts of triggers into strings that thus became uneditable, and not saving my switch names.

I've never heard of it exhibiting that behavior, which makes me think something is bugging it out.
