Starcraft and Brood War Patch Information

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- patch 1.15.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feature Changes

- StarCraft and StarCraft: BroodWar no longer require the CD while playing the
game. To play without the CD, please follow the following instructions:

- Windows Users:
- Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked under
Explorer Folder Options.
- If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to
your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq".
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft:
Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq".

- Mac users:
- If you own only StarCraft, copy "StarCraft Archive" from the StarCraft CD
to your StarCraft folder.
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "Brood War Archive" from the
StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder.
Um.. the mac part is wrong. That won't work. What you need to do is:
Insert Starcraft or Brood War CD
Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utillity.app)
Select "Session 1" ontop of "Brood War CD" or "Starcraft CD"
Click "New Image"
Save As: "Brood War CD" or "Starcraft CD"
Image Format "Read Only"
Encryption "None"
Press Save

May take a while to create.
When it is done, eject your disk. Open the Brood War.dmg, and load starcraft. YAY!!
...Have you tried to do what the patch notes say?, because it has nothing to do with creating an image.
This works for everything,.
Yes, but you said that the patch was wrong.
I actually thought the patch was all a joke, up until now...

I just logged onto battle.net no patch to download... so this is a joke... My "No disk" still works! :D

You are both wrong (OP and Test) while the method you described is close, the proper method is to put it in the "StarCraft Files" folder for mac, not the StarCraft folder.

Test, the DMG trick that you described (I think I told you it...) works for all blizzard games, but not all games (most though.)

The patch is indeed real, but it only exists on East.
Ugh.. the patch just says how to play without the disk. I posted a different method.

FireGraft is going to take a bit of a back seat right now. The No-CD feature probably changed a bit of the code enough to cause me some headache. Even so, I've already started on a restructuring that will allow me to keep exe edits stored across versions so that IF the offsets have been found for that version, they will be on automatically. Oh, and I've got it set up to give the functionality to specify and add versions to an exe.

However, I have to actually go and figure out how the no-cd part is working, and fix myself up to work with that. However, it might take quite a while to figure it all out...

Lol, after dling the patch I can get on East but not west; it gives me an error.

Guess that's one more reason why East > West ;)

Quite the opposite. Due to Modders now being more awesome, productive, and more popular than mappers, we can now use West so our latest FG version works.

Another reason why West > East, lolol.

You're so blatantly wrong. Maps are being played by more than 50000 people at any given time. How many people do you see consistently running around using mods?

Rofl, more popular than mappers? West is greater than East? FG is working on this new patch?

What the !@#$ are you smoking?

West hasn't been updated with 1.15.2 yet, so they can still play FG mods on there.

Fewer people, but they're all better than the mappers? LRN TO READ.

He's referring to mappers versus modders. Not people who play maps or mods. Heck, you can't play a mod without a map, so it's impossible for mod players to pass map players. :P

Well, I was referring to the popularity thing.

Blizzard strikes another blow against modders...Now its worse. Use CD for grafted mods and dont use CD with no mods. :flamer:

No, I would just guess they changed F:/INSTALL.EXE to SCPATH/StarCraft.mpq in the default MPQ list, which is quite similar to what modders do with MPQDraft. If I'm right, then MPQDraft will work perfectly fine with the CD thing.

I said grafted mods... Anyways, new patches are usually bad news for modders.

Use another program to save it. For example, open the file in Notepad, then press "save as", go to your SC folder, and name it "BroodWar.mpq" (quotes included)

Can't you still get to DOS in Vista?

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
