A cutthroat battle of wits, strategy, and deceit.

General

1) The game consists of players competing for votes and money.

2) All players begin the game with a total of 0 votes and an account of $100,000,000.

3) The game ends after ten voting rounds, at which time the winners are determined.

4) During each voting round, every player will secretly place five votes.

  • Votes must be PMed to me. PMs with multiple recipients will not be counted.
  • Each player must place exactly five votes every round.
  • Players can vote for up to five different people.
  • Players can vote for the same person multiple times.
  • Players cannot vote for themselves.
  • Votes can be changed before the deadline.

5) The number of votes each player has received so far will be tallied and displayed at the end of each voting round.

6) Votes which a player receives become that player's property and can be transferred to another player.

7) Players have the ability to create contracts with other players.

  • Every contract is a transaction in which one player is spending money to purchase something from another player.
  • Every contract must involve exactly two players, the purchasing player and the selling player.
  • The purchasing player must transfer an exact amount of money to the selling player.
  • The purchasing player cannot give anything other than a single amount of money to the selling player.
  • The selling player cannot transfer money to the purchasing player during the same transaction.
  • The players may include special terms for the contract, which must be adhered to.
  • Payments will be made immediately, unless the terms of the contract state otherwise.
  • The property of a player can only be transferred to another player through a contract.
  • Players who are unable to fulfill their side of a contract at the time they are required to will lose $100,000,000.

8) Contracts can be created publicly or privately.

  • A contract must state the specific players involved, what is being purchased, how much is being spent, and any special terms.
  • A public contract is posted in the thread by one player, then quoted and agreed to by the other player.
  • A private contract is PMed to me and the other player at the same time, then the other player replies to both of us agreeing.
  • Contracts cannot include terms which are impossible to fulfill.
  • A player may revoke a contract after creating it, but only if it has not been agreed to yet.
  • When revoking a contract, a player must use the same method by which the contract was created.
  • Contracts agreed to in the same post will take effect in the order they were agreed to, never simultaneously.
  • Once agreed to, contracts are binding and must be adhered to by both players.
  • Once agreed to, a public contract cannot be edited or removed from either player's post.

9) The first voting round will end three days after the game begins.

10) Each subsequent voting round will last for one day.

11) No one may request or volunteer screenshots, videos, etc. of private host communications or someone's password via the thread, a PM, or any other method. This includes screenshots of messages from me which confirm, depict, or otherwise suggest private contracts, remaining funds, or any other information which is only given privately. This also includes extortion used outside the game, or any other method used to acquire accurate information. In addition, arrangements which involve backing information with something of value are not allowed. The game is intended to be won via behavioral analysis, strategy, and deceit. It can be assumed anything which undermines this intention is not allowed. You will auto-lose if I find out you've been partaking in these ancient acts of evil. (For clarification, sharing the text that a PM supposedly contained is not in violation of this rule.)

12) A player may be replaced at my discretion, such as someone who goes inactive. Activity and participation in each round of the game is required. Playing in an attempt to win is required. Players who do not adhere to these rules will be indefinitely banned from future games.

Victory

Signing Up and General Notes

Question - In the original manga, Nao makes a contract stating that "At the beginning of round ten, Nao should pay 70,000,000$ to Eda." It was impossible to do so until the end of round 8 because she(Nao) didn't have enough money then, but she somehow got some money during round 9 using strategies, making it possible to pay 70,000,000$ to Eda.

So, like this, is it possible to make contracts which terms have possibilities for being impossible?

None.

Feb 25 2013, 5:45 am Azrael Post #12

You could do that, since it's technically possible to fulfill the contract ^^

Feb 25 2013, 5:50 am zzt Post #13

What if I fail to meet the conditions when I'm supposed to pay? Say, Nao failed to get money during round 9 and didn't make it to $70M. What's the penalty for that? In the original manga, -$100M was the penalty for breaking a contract, but your version doesn't say anything about that..

I'll observe. I can imagine there being a lot of contention over ambiguous contracts or contracts written in full-fledged obfuscated legalese.

Also, whoever that wants to win the game can feel free to contact me right now. My foolproof victory strategy will be disclosed to them that guarantees they either end the game with a positive balance or with the most votes.

Why not sign-up and try it yourself :P

Most contracts aren't likely to be obfuscated legalese because there's no need for it. Each contract only involves two people, the buyer and the seller. The buyer is receiving something in exchange for money. Any additional terms are only serving to define or modify that arrangement.

And there's the fact that no one is obligated to agree to a contract that's difficult to read or understand the meaning of.
