Pr0nogo and Jim_Raynor present the One-Month StarCraft: Brood War Contest.

THE CONTEST BEGINS ON JULY 1ST, 12:00 AM EST.

RULES
  • This is a month-long contest. All submissions must be submitted by Tuesday, July 31st, 11:59 PM EST to be eligible for prizes, or Friday, August 3rd, 11:59 PM EST to be eligible for judging.
  • All submissions shall be judged by Pr0nogo and Jim_Raynor, co-founders of Crescendo Entertainment.
  • All submissions must be made within the contest's time frame. Anything made before or after the contest will not count. You may use resources from compilations, the DLDB, external sources, and Falkoner's Terrain Compilation. You may not pull entire maps or terrain quadrants from existing scenarios or past submissions. All physical map/mod work must be done within the contest's time frame.
  • If you are competing in Kaias' one-week mapping contest, you may submit a polished, updated, or otherwise continued version of that submission for consideration. If the judges agree that the submission is sufficiently updated from its original form, you will still be eligible to receive prizes and judging.
  • Only one submission per participant is allowed.
  • Maps, mods, EUD actions, etc. are all fair game. As long as the judges can run and play your submission, your submission will be judged. This means that you may submit a modding project; maps are not required, though they are obviously encouraged.
  • Late submissions (submissions after July 31st, 11:59 PM EST) will not be eligible for prizes.
  • CONTESTANTS MUST PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE WEEKLY UPDATE EVERY WEEK UNTIL JULY 27TH.

Awesome, so i don't have to submit a map to win? :bleh:

Yes, that's kind of the point. You can submit a standalone mod.

None.

Wish you luck guys. I doubt I'd finish anything for this, but I hope it goes well.

If you want to submit a total conversion, no need for an accompanying map. Obviously, the work on the mod will have to be extensive to justify not having any maps if you expect positive reception.

A note on mineral prizes has been added in the prizes section.

/e

lil-inferno has generously offered three game keys for his indie platformer, Slick. That has also been added to the prize pool.

The contest has begun! You may now officially start working on your project.
Weekly updates are due by the following dates:
FIRST WEEK - Saturday, July 7th.
SECOND WEEK - Saturday, July 14th.
THIRD WEEK - Saturday, July 21st.
FOURTH WEEK - Saturday, July 28th.

Each missed update docks a single point off of your Professionalism score. Miss all four updates and you are disqualified from prizes, but not from judging.

Jul 1 2012, 3:50 pm Biophysicist Post #10

What is supposed to go into these updates, and how should they be delivered?

None.

Jul 1 2012, 5:05 pm Pr0nogo Post #11

General progress updates, project direction, and anything else you feel is important should be present in each update.

I wish you had started this around the time that Kaias' contest starts so that I could use the same map. It wouldn't make sense to use the same map since I'd be missing 8 days worth of work to adhere by Kaias' contest rules. Oh well...

But I can't start working on the map for Kaias' contest until the 8th. This started on the first. I wouldn't really want to use the same map then because I'd be 8 days behind anyone who's only making a map for this contest. Unless I'm missing something in that quote...

A lot of other contestants have told me they're doing Kaias' map contest and then submitting a polished map for this one. You won't be the only one, and I'm expecting more than a few late entries.

Note: first weekly update is due tomorrow if you've entered already (looking at you, Biophysicist, Blur, Cadia-, et. al.).

I'm... Already unsure if I'll be able to finish; I'm going to England with a bell choir, and I just got an email saying they moved the date we're departing and it's almost a whole week sooner. Or, more accurately I just checked my email and found a message they'd sent a few days ago. >.>

Im entering, but not for prizes. My mod is named StarCraft: Apocalypse. I will be sure to upload progress of it by the 14th.

Biophys, you need to post your monthly weekly update in the thread. I'll note that I did receive it, though.
I'd appreciate it if you could do as much work as is possible, and send me what you have when you're certain you won't have any more time to work on it before the contest is over.
