As the title states, I have discovered a means of freezing the minimap in a Starcraft game. To do so is simple:

1. Open SCMDraft 2

2. Create trigger:
Trigger
Players
  • All Players
  • Conditions
  • Always
  • Actions
  • Preserve trigger
  • Show Unused Zerg Bldg 5 talking to current player for 1316134911 milliseconds.

  • 2(1/2). Double check that the number is 1316134911

    3. Play the map and feel amazed as you lose your sense of direction.

I have no idea why, but doing this will freeze the vision box centered on the start location in the beginning, then after a few seconds will block all incoming pings
(freezing them to the edge of the map I presume). Rest assured though; it doesn't affect the unit dots on the map at all or anything else that I know of, except
turning your talking portrait to a lovely hue of static. I also have not tested it on Bnet, so I really don't know how this will affect other people's games.

I'm also not very sure how this will help anything, other then confuse the players and make them feel lost, but at least you people know about it, so BE HAPPY! :D

I tested it in BNet, and I can't find any noticable change extept 'turning your talking portrait to a lovely hue of static.' part. I couldn't test it in single player as my standard.snp was corrupt =(

If this works in single player, I could easily have use for this in a campaign or two.

Sorry to hear that zzt. I have no idea what that is :massimo: Talk to somebody more certified about that... I test all my maps in Bnet, just with nobody in the games. Maybe you could duplicate my methods? (never mind. Seems you have to) Also I discovered this today, so I don't know a lot about it and I haven't done must testing with it so I don't know what to tell you :|

    EDIT (2nd time):
I've been testing this for the past hour and a half and have confirmed a few things:

    1. 342000000 milliseconds or more are required for this to work correctly (yes that is SIX zeros)

    2. As far as the pings go, on Bnet they will freeze mid-ping and remain there, blocking view of the things beneath

    3. This does work in single player, however it not only freezes the vision box, it freezes the entire minimap, disabling vision completely (unit dots, vision box, pings, fog, everything)

    4. This effect is irreversible

    5. This effect also freezes the leaderboard, if you have one.

There are a few things to which I am uncertain though, such as if there are more units that can be shown as a portrait and freeze the map, and if it is reversible, but I
am too lazy to find out at the moment. I shall attach a map that utilizes this concept, along with some zombie killing action that I added because I was bored. I am also unsure
as to how this will work with other players.

    EDIT!!!!!:

If you end the scenario in victory and continue playing, the map will continue to be frozen and if you move your mouse over the talking portrait then it alters the animation for some reason. Just though I'd throw that out there.

    SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

AFAIK The unit you use for the portrait doesn't matter. It's the transmission time that causes it, and I don't think you need to Preserve it. Try it in the briefing too.

I tried this last week when I was looking for a way so people could not see their minimap and I did not see any difference in my minimap. And Blizzard did not patch Starcraft recently, so I have no idea what is wrong. Let me know if you figure it out, because I would possibly like to use it in my map :D

    Still Napping

    Works in your map still.

Also, the unit used for the portrait does matter, Uraj Crystal doesn't seem to be affected by it.
