Just wondering what everybody out here listens to. Go ahead and comment/criticize/suggest on the contents of everybody's music library. If this doesn't belong here, then I apologize in advance. :)

ANYWAY,

First one with a library over 91GB gets 100 points.

I accept the challenge.

Due to how scattered my content is (7.5tb of drive space and ~4 versions of window backups is a lot of space to cover) I won't be able to show all of it, just the big collections.

Old directories -

Hah, less there than I thought. Some newsbin dumps, general spattering of soundtracks, ect. Okay, let's move on.

Small collection of music. About 20% of this is not music or is alternative backups. But it's mostly music.

Two collections here. One is a backup of a 2009 directory that would be about 50-60% music. The other is my current dump for jdownloader that is around 90% or more music, mostly soundtracks and game rips. The other 10% would be some isos I grabbed from cgpersia.

My H drive (which I use mostly for torrents and backups) has a small quantity of music on it, mostly lossless discographies and such. I'll be modest and say it's around 5-10gb but I don't know for sure. It has some other directories on it, though.

^ Small pocket of stuff that HKS gave me a few years ago. I should split it one of these days but I'm just too lazy.

Add about 20-30gb for the scattered material. Add 100+gb for my personal SFX rips and then another 50gb or so for commercial SFX cds if you want to count those, too. And then 35ish GB for the material I have that allows one to make music. :}

May have missed some directories, but honestly I find it challenging to keep up with so much stuff. I don't have a drive big enough with enough free space to collect it all on one spot.

Quick summary of some of my favorite bands/artists,

Quote
Kamelot (everyone knows this from MFTGATRL of course...)
Celldweller
Battlelore
Sirenia (the old stuff anyways)
Kovenant
Sybreed
Lunatica
Within Temptation
Old Therion stuff
Machinae Supremacy
Huun-Huur-Tu
Lumin
Mirabilis
Vanessa Mae
Gwyllion
Love Spirals Downwards
Rhea's Obsession
Isihia
Delain
...

There's too many to go through. If you want me to keep listing I can but yeah. My tastes are best described as ridiculously picky.

And some of my favorite soundtracks... no fuck that I can't even remember them all.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

I haven't heard of any of those. Out of those, which share the most similarities with Sigur Ros? They're my favorite of the tiny amount of post-rock I have. I love listening to ( ) when I'm sleeping. I was actually considering giving Led Zeppelin a chance recently too, I've heard good things about them. Genesis, I dunno. Phil Collins, right? lol. We'll see.

Iskatu... enjoy your 100 points. I am... impressed... a bit scared, too. You're quite the digital hoarder. I suggest some organization, haha. Perhaps more relevant directory names. Unless, of course, Epic cock is relevant to the contents... :)

Similar to Sigur Ros... hummmm... I in fact can't think of any. Icelandic post-rock is kind of unique. :P
"( )" is fucking awesome. One of the best post-rock albums ever made.

If you like Godspeed, go for The Ascent Of Everest.
And if you're searching for one of the top 3 post-rock bands on Earth: please go get the single album Yndi Halda has made. You should normally easily find a torrent. "Enjoy Eternal Bliss" it is, and it contains 4 tracks of over 10 minutes each.
The others listed are rather plain commercial application of the post-rock genre, but they are still very good (hence why I recommended them to you).
Fragile sounds a bit like Yndi Halda, but if I remember well, they are more axed toward classical instrument.

About Genesis, you must learn there have been two eras: "Before Peter Gabriel left", and "After (aka Phil Collins alone)". Peter Gabriel was a genius, and Genesis made -awesome- songs when he was there. All superb art-rock genre. Once he left, the group started doing more and more "pop" songs, which sucks in my opinion.

No way, my directory names are entirely relevant. The Epic Cock folder is a truly manly beast.

Do you guys even listen to all that music? Or do you just download anything you hear/have heard of and never even look at it?

Jul 2 2011, 5:08 pm Rantent Post #15

I have a folder of "new songs" which I listen to before they are added to the main library. So yes, I've listened to each song at least once, except for 1316 songs. (The current size of the "new song" folder.) Roughly 2/3 of the main library has been rated, which means I took the time to listen through the song without distractions around. (As opposed to background music.)

I am a radio show host, and so am always looking for interesting new songs.

Oh yes. Or I reserve it for projects.

Fun Fact - I don't use playlists.
