Hello all, this is just a friendly reminder that the November StarCraft II Map Making Contest deadline is coming up in two weeks. If you haven't started a map yet and want to participate, there's still plenty of time.

(user posted image)

THEME
The theme for this mapping contest is ARCADE GAMES. That's right, you can make your own arcade-style game. Come up with something fun and simple or create something complex and seemingly never-ending! If you're out of ideas, you could elaborate on a small minigame, redesign a known arcade game, or even ripoff PopCap and turn one of their masterpieces into a StarCraft 2 map (at a penalty, you dirty plagiarizer).

REWARDS
First Place: 200 minerals, 4 Contest Points
Second Place: 150 minerals, 3 Contest Points
Third Place: 100 minerals, 2 Contest Points

To learn more about the contest, see the contest thread here.

In the next couple days we will be unveiling our new wiki, GalaxyWiki.net. Though I call it "our" new wiki, this will be a collaborate effort between various affiliate sites to create one giant resource for StarCraft II map making. The goal is to pool as much information as possible from various sources so that this becomes a definitive asset for any map maker.

At the moment, our current wiki has been accessed over 7,000 times and contains 119 articles written by SEN's members. Once GalaxyWiki goes live our entire existing wiki database will be ported over to build upon.

We can keep our wiki if need be as a backup, I guess, but the Wiki link is supposed to change to GalaxyWiki's address.

Will our SC1 wiki articles be affected by this change at all?

They shouldn't be. As long as we aren't deleting our wiki, everything should remain the same on it regarding SC1.

Uh, just so you guys know, I own http://www.galaxywiki.com

Not using it, willing to donate.

I was originally going to make a dedicated wiki, sc2mapster eventually had a better wiki and I figured it wasn't worth the effort.

... LOL. I'm pretty sure splitting off the SEN Wiki into something less SEN-affiliated to encourage SCIIMapster and other community members to contribute was originally my idea. I remember posting the idea in a Staff Forum thread shortly after receiving access (more than a month before SCII was released). Also proposed adopting Yoshi's wiki for it if he were up for it. Awesome. :awesome:

Otherwise, looks interesting. I don't think I'll be that interested in arcade-themed maps... so, about the wiki, did you already arrange with other communities to port their articles and such or is this solely SEN-driven?

Also, can you please hold some strategy or diplo-themed contest at some point?? The only real strategy/diplo map currently popular is Risk, and that gets boring fast. I'd love it if a SENner made a spawning game or a traditional diplo or something for SCII - I'm still playing WCIII maps because SCII lacks the games. And SEN should be really good for this - from what I gather, SEN isn't as great at revolutionary engines anymore, but creating a great, fun diplo/strategy map requires balancing, nice terraining and no 3D movement engines or anything like that.

Mike, we realized that but weren't sure if you were willing to give it up, as it redirected to mapster. Plus, having the .net at the end fits better with what we were doing anyway :P Have you got any articles left over from galaxywiki.com that we could use?

Cent, the other communities are going to contribute their articles as well, although SEN's wiki will provide the original base.

Red classic.

I have mostly left SEN except for the Temple Siege 2 forum (hidden to most of you). I am available via PM still, and Skype as JackRCDF.

If it is important to you, you will find a way. Otherwise, you will find an excuse. -Unknown
Magnificent!
Perhaps you shouldn't be on SEN as much, too...

Afair, I believe back in the time I had access to the Staff Lounge, I had also proposed to start hosting important events/activites and such on external sources to be able to reach a large public.
... but now that I think of it, I think I had only proposed that for the Map Nights. Nevermind. But still, at least, I had a moment of self-glory inside my head for a second. ^^

Btw, Centreri, is this some kind of "I WILL RETURN!" message? :awesome:

I bought and will host GalaxyEdit.net, but I'm sure we could use both. That would be awesome if you're willing. :)

http://www.GalaxyWiki.net/ is up! All our files and articles (sans Talk pages and Templates) have been imported. I also made some skin changes because I wasn't a huge fan of the giant planet thing. Unfortunately given how I modified the "logo," all the other skins make the logo deformed. I may eventually go in and space each skin out to make room for the full image.

The wiki link in our menu bar still points to our old wiki.

I know, I haven't talked to Devourer about that yet. I think what we'll do is have the "Wiki" link be a dropdown menu that has a link to GWN as "StarCraft 2" and the current Wiki for "StarCraft 1." Then we'd need to change the links to the SC2 wiki to GWN (in the StarCraft 1 section, that is).
