:payne:

I am supposed to leave for a 800 Km bike ride on the 31th May.
However, out of the 6 persons, I am the only that doesn't own a road bike: I only have a hybrid bike.
We're planning to do the trip on 10 days (they have different stuff to do at each destination -> resting day).

Do you think I'll be able to make it? (Not asking about my performance, but mostly the feasibility of the project)
What is the gain of speed between a road bike and a hybrid one?

This is serious business. Please serious answers?

I'd go to a sports good shop and ask someone who works there. Like REI or Dick's...they'll be able to give you the most help.

In my opinion, you shouldn't be worried about speed as much as endurance and durability of the bike and of you. Good luck :\

If all the roads that you'll be riding on are good and you guys are not planning on pushing yourselves to the limits, there is no problem with having a road bike. If you're definitely stronger and have more stamina than your friends, don't bother getting a road bike. Mind you, your friends will have to support you by being your wind shields.

If, however, you guys are planning to push yourselves to the limits, an appropriate bike is a must. I've done cycling for over 5 years and know the importance of good equipment.

Wind-shield tactic adopted! >:D
We'll do from 80 to 130 Km per day: is this considered as pushing us to the limits?
I know I can do 40 Km in 1h40, and that includes all the damn red lights I've had before leaving the city :flamer:

Also, I have never worn sun-glasses: would it be a good advantage for this trip? Should I buy some?

if it gets real sunny you should definitely get some glasses and/or a hat, in case of sun stroke which could ruin the trip.

In fact, you should've considered I'd be wearing a helmet, but I will not because I just never wear one: I hate this shit! >.<

I think the main oversight is you're too lazy to do your own homework. Sun stroke poses much larger problems than possibly "ruining the trip." And not wearing a helmet with so many dbag drivers could potentially kill you. You're going roughly 500 miles? Are you 100% sure there will be plenty of water along the way? Pick up iodine tablets if you're not sure. Are you carrying your gear, or is someone taking a truck to throw your stuff in? What about provisions? I don't mean for meals, necessarily, either. I mean healthy snacks that if you or one of your teammates starts to feel weak, or passes out. Its good you're going in a group. Stay together. Is the times you clocked on flat even road, or gradient? After you do your 1h40min ride, are you winded or exhausted? Are you pushing yourself? If so, I'd focus on longer rides without a concern of how long it takes you. Are you expecting extreme high or low temperatures? Pack accordingly.

I mean...it just seems like you're asking the wrong questions. You could get SERIOUSLY hurt....

This is our trip: clicky + clicky...
And this is not the complete itinerary. :D In fact, we must go to 'B' (first clicky) and come back to 'Quebec' to then travel up to 'Baie Saint-Paul', then we return to Quebec and we start the 2nd clicky travel.

As you might see, we're passing thourgh villages/big cities during the whole trip, so no do not have to worry about food.
For sleeping, we'll rent camping sites on our way (approx. 3 bucks per night per biker).
We'll bring our own stuff with us: mostly our sleeping bags and the tent ;o

How many chain gears are on your bike? If you only have one or two, then hire someone to add another gear so that your mechanical advantage increases. If your chain is too small for another gear, just buy a bigger chain. If you have 3-2 gears on your bike, then you should tighten the smaller gear and loosen the larger one. Take this advice from me, my dad works on bikes. ;)
EDIT: WEAR A HELMET! Yes, sunglasses are a good idea.

Not by any reasonable standards.

Yes. And wear appropriate clothes: nothing that would give you blisters, etc. Also, no rings, piercings and other stuff like that.

Hmmm, as a French native speaker, I didn't understand half you've said. Those looks like pretty technical words.
Any images or something? :S
(In fact, even in French, I'm not sure I'd have understood what you've said. XD)

sunglasses have nothing to do with how well you can see. They prevent eye strain and sunburns. (Has anyone ever gotten a sunburn on their eye? I've only seen it once. D:)

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

Clipons cost a coupla hundred bucks, and they have a habit of breaking.

Red classic.

No one said you had to get name brand clip ons. ...and it'd be smarter to buy a couple of ten dollar ones anyways from a drugstore.

I couldn't imagine life without sunglasses. seriously XD
