"How To..." Videos

Basically, people are having trouble learning a lot of things and to make the world noob friendly, I have decided to offer my knowledge and extra time to create videos for the common "i cant do it..." questions (FAQs). Just think of it as a Tutorial on crack. Is there any requests? Any at all? This is open to everyone, especially you guys who might be afraid to ask dumb questions. I could easily create a combo video to cover the smaller issues. I can even do blending if it is so desired. Also, this is not for just singular things, you can ask for me to develop a system from the ground up and I will.

If you are wondering, these videos will not use text, it will be my voice. Sorry for those of you who have trouble understanding spoken English.

Make something to explain that deathcounts are used to hold data, and that you manipulate them with the action "set deaths", and that you don't actually create//kill units to use it.

How about you explain binary countoffs and single switch randomization. Those things are extremely useful, and hardly any mappers utilize them :(

Also, I get asked about invisible beacons all the time.

Junkyard dog is also commonly asked for.

Oh, and interceptor manipulation, as well as scarab manipulation is really common for me.

I could do a whole thing around disabling/enabling action. I will leave binary count-offs and switch randomization for people to figure out... Maybe if it relates to a more elaborate system, I can combo it.

- Uber grid systems (1 pixel-or-so detection) that are used in maps like Elementa.

Alright, I suppose I can do a Pixel Grid detection map.

Hm... Define a bit more? I might do aesthetics for terrain, units, strings and triggered events all separately though. I can do units and strings in one though, but I would need some more clarification so I can think of what to create/talk about.

- DDS = Direct Damage System
- You got it right for the Doodads Placement definition ;)
- Aesthetic in general: matching colors, have great names, good dialogues, well separating dialogues (and their format), trigger commenting and organization, etc.

Hey hey... All in due time. I'm not able to slave away on a map for a long period of time. I need breaks.

That's really quite simple... but sure, I can do that too... Only problem is, I want to show them from beginning to end, but it shows your IP from the main menu on my router.

Except there's no real point showing a video of that, because it'll be different for everyone's different routers.

Just go to portforward.com.

I already have, I just need to find a more managable method of uploading them, it was gonna take 4 hours to upload the last one, fuck that. I need to lower my rez for recording or something.

Mp4 or mpeg4 usually has really great compression ratios, and last time I checked could be uploaded to Youtube.

MP4 are supported on YouTube. A decent (or hell, even a crappy) video editor can blur out your IP (blur a region of the video for a set period of time) for port forwarding.

Some strange stuff

-How to prevent nook and crannies glitch (keep doodads/as little null terrain as possible.. ect
-How to make a basic rpg (hero selection(s) <- Optional heal triggers)
-Basic EUD tutorial
-Creating basic rpg spells
-How to make a balanced game
-How to not act like a noob on starcraft (melee) say gg after each game, ect
-How to ling rush
-Improving your game on starcraft
-How to efficiently hot-key (melee, ums ...?)
-How to compress you wav files efficiently
-How to gain rep (go on fourms, create good maps, ect)
-Inspiration for a map you want to make (and how to half ass it)

I'm sure half of this is useless but w/e you filter it as you need to =p

Truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with a seat missing, but it hurts.

I plan to make a small RPG and load it for an example on how to do a few things.
