[2014-8-09. : 6:04 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- And I don't know why people still have the color issue in SC. I got win7 and had it and remembered a color fix topic and did the one thing in it and have never had an issue since. [2014-8-09. : 6:03 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- like the file association is annoying, but it's only been a problem a few times and there were ways to work around it [2014-8-09. : 6:02 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Overall, I do like Win7. It's just the folder view settings that I ever really have trouble with. ;o [2014-8-09. : 5:59 pm] Moose -- Yeah, I always hated typed folders, I disabled them as much as possible and stuck as many things as I could in classic view. [2014-8-09. : 5:58 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- The one to make all folders the same foldertype was a cool fix, because at least now it doesn't keep trying to arbitrarily decide folders are picture or music folders just because there is a single jpg or mp3 in a sea of other files. [2014-8-09. : 5:57 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- "Mini Moose 2707 -- FaRTy knows what I'm talking about" Instead of, on several occasions, get really frustrated that it won't remember, spend hours googling attempting again and again loads of troubleshooting, registry fixes, and 'cool little tricks' to have no change. [2014-8-09. : 5:54 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- "Mini Moose 2707 -- You know what didn't have this problem? Win XP." Uncheck 'Remember individual folder settings', reset all folders, apply/ok, set desired view settings, Apply to All Folders. xD [2014-8-09. : 5:53 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Oh, also in 7 they made changing file associations really weird and needlessly complex. Like I accidentally ran windows media player once and it set itself as the default for all media types and I absolutely could not undo that without uninstalling it entirely because the options to change that were greyed out in the control panel. ;o [2014-8-09. : 5:50 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Also it would be nice if sort by type sorted by file extension instead of file type description, but I can deal with that. ;o [2014-8-09. : 5:47 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- And then for some folders, and I have no idea why, I will go in and it will be arbitrarily sorted by name [2014-8-09. : 5:46 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- When I first turn my computer on and open a folder, it's always in list in Explorer so I set it to tile, and then when I go to save/open a file every folder is tile and setting one does not set them all so every folder I navigate to I have to right click->view->list. Even worse, it seems to be program-specific so I have to do every folder in every program [2014-8-09. : 5:45 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I mean folder view. Like I want every folder to be tile + sort by type in Explorer, and in an open/save dialog I want it to be list + sort by type. [2014-8-09. : 5:44 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- I don't have any problem with my view... Except when I start some games it gets rid of the taskbar color. Sometimes it doesn't revert back to the color I set it to be until I restart my computer. [2014-8-09. : 5:41 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- And what sucks is going in to safe mode the folders default how I want them, so surely there is some way to accomplish it [2014-8-09. : 5:41 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I did the registry fix that makes all folders not use the folder types, but that doesn't help much (it did a little) [2014-8-09. : 5:40 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I've googled it lots, playing in registry, deleting stuff, adding stuff ... [2014-8-09. : 5:34 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- And my only problem with Win7 is that it refuses to keep my view settings how I want. I'm constantly battling it about that, and if I restart the computer (or explorer.exe) then everything is reset and I have to start over. [2014-8-09. : 5:33 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- reformat, plug in external, go down the list of installers, happy computer. ;o [2014-8-09. : 5:32 pm] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Also I keep a folder on my external harddrive with drivers and basic program installations that I use ;o [2014-8-09. : 4:57 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- I rarely do anything involving OS's. Switching from XP to 7, I had my motherboard disc... I only had the problem when I switched to an SSD because of the increased boot speed, and couldn't find the disc... But I might as well make a back-up of the internet driver though... Since I can basically solve everything after that. [2014-8-09. : 4:47 pm] Moose -- And by compiling, I mean in the sense of putting them together. You really shouldn't need to actually compile drivers on Windows. XD [2014-8-09. : 4:46 pm] Moose -- Yeah, compiling all of your drivers and driver installers onto a backup is a good idea in general. I have a folder called "fresh_install" for ... fresh installations, should I ever need to. [2014-8-09. : 4:43 pm] Dem0n -- Just pull all the driver files onto a flash drive and then install them through that. That's what I do when I reformat and don't have internet. [2014-8-09. : 4:43 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- I'm talking about getting the right drivers again... Since I lost my motherboard CD, I had to look for the driver to get the internet to work, and had to boot up from my 1TB drive. [2014-8-09. : 4:32 pm] Roy -- Though with 7/8, you can just mount the ISO and install that way as well. [2014-8-09. : 4:31 pm] Moose -- It's true, booting from a USB just to try a different OS is a sweet feature. [2014-8-09. : 4:31 pm] Roy -- You can just download the OS, make a bootable flash drive (you can even make your smartphone emulate a flash drive if you don't have one handy), and run the setup. [2014-8-09. : 4:28 pm] Roy -- The plus side is that installing OSes has gotten easier over the years. [2014-8-09. : 4:25 pm] Moose -- And if you have decent reading comprehension, you probably won't. Mine is terrible sometimes. [2014-8-09. : 4:24 pm] Moose -- Eh, it takes time but it's really not difficult, just don't mess up your partitions [2014-8-09. : 4:13 pm] Roy -- Also, I could do without the charms menu. If that could be toggled off, that'd be nice. [2014-8-09. : 4:12 pm] Roy -- All they need to do for me to consider it a success is put metro apps in windows instead of fullscreening. [2014-8-09. : 4:05 pm] Roy -- From what I've heard, Windows 9 is going to be pursuing the unified OS approach and embracing the fullscreen start menu. [2014-8-09. : 4:01 pm] Dem0n -- Literally nobody uses Windows phones. I don't know why they keep catering to it. ;_; [2014-8-09. : 4:00 pm] Roy -- Windows 8 doesn't have the driver/compatibility issues, but Microsoft was too aggressive on their mobile agenda (which they tuned down for 8.1). [2014-8-09. : 3:56 pm] Moose -- I had a friend who had a Vista laptop around the time Vista came out, though. He wasn't a computer guy, so I felt bad for him when shit started going wrong and I had to keep fixing things. So that left a bad taste in my mouth for the OS. [2014-8-09. : 3:51 pm] Moose -- So after 10+ years of Win XP, I'm pretty attached to it. Note my near-total lack of objectivity when defending it. [2014-8-09. : 3:49 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- That's the same reason I switched... That's why I said among. [2014-8-09. : 3:47 pm] Roy -- I was one of the last to upgrade my laptop from Vista to 7. Some machines just ran better with the former. [2014-8-09. : 3:46 pm] Roy -- My school laptop had Vista SP2 on it, and everyone started upgrading to 7 because "it's so much better than Vista!" And then they all ran into driver issues and certain functions on the laptop weren't working correctly. It was the same shit as Vista went through, but since 7 had a good reputation, nobody complained about it. [2014-8-09. : 3:46 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- Still though, playing Starcraft without changing settings will always make XP number one in my book. [2014-8-09. : 3:45 pm] BloodyZombie117 -- No wonder I didn't know about it. My dad's the first to get new OS's. [2014-8-09. : 3:45 pm] Moose -- IIRC, 7 was based on Vista, so they made 7 and was like "uh, let's put this shit on Vista so it stops being a pile of poop" |
