[2016-5-23. : 2:00 am]
TiKels -- You'd keep all the radius data as Y data and then just call the angle data as X data
[2016-5-23. : 1:59 am]
TiKels -- I don't think it'd be perfect but it'd be close.
[2016-5-23. : 1:59 am]
TiKels -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Do you do trig functions? Do you just spiral out?
There's nothing special about polar. You could write an analogous shape in Cartesian by projecting it... I'm not sure if there's a formal name for that kind of projection
[2016-5-23. : 1:56 am]
Corbo -- But since units actually have turns and stuff they'd have to be recreated from scratch
[2016-5-23. : 1:56 am]
Corbo -- Probably could clean up things from screenshots for buildings and other non-unit graphics.
[2016-5-23. : 1:55 am]
BeatMeistro -- Corbo
Corbo shouted: BeatMeistro Let's. I'd be in for that.
That's good to know, Still i wonder, if we need to search around for the graphics or recreate them from scratch?
[2016-5-23. : 1:54 am]
Corbo -- BeatMeistro
BeatMeistro shouted: We should make a collaboration mod to revive unused SC1 alpha/beta stuff.
Let's. I'd be in for that.
[2016-5-23. : 1:53 am]
TiKels -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Yeah, like we got older and got shit to do X^D
something something family man
[2016-5-23. : 1:52 am]
TiKels -- BeatMeistro
BeatMeistro shouted: I think we should, ask for concept art, maybe unused stuff if they have any.
There's definitely unused assets out there. Some SC1 boxes had a doodad on it that didn't ship with the game
[2016-5-23. : 1:49 am]
Corbo -- BeatMeistro
BeatMeistro shouted: It's kinda a step closer to adding new races on SCBW.
I've discussed this idea with Farty, while this indeed allows you to add new units completely from scratch it's no where near close to adding an entire new race. He doesn't even know all the work it'd take to code something to add a new race, if at all possible. And I can pretty much agree, like, it will be ohgod very much so hardcoded, and it'd have to take a lot of work to add the options in the bin menus, to make sc load some new option, what is it supposed to callback? etc...
[2016-5-23. : 1:49 am]
TiKels -- But that's pretty in depth for something so simple
[2016-5-23. : 1:48 am]
TiKels -- I feel like neural networks would be a good one size fits all solution
[2016-5-23. : 1:48 am]
TiKels -- There's direct conversions from polar to Cartesian, though I don't know if that's helpful
[2016-5-23. : 1:23 am]
Moose -- I think you need at least a vague shape
[2016-5-23. : 1:23 am]
Moose -- Do you do trig functions? Do you just spiral out?
[2016-5-23. : 1:21 am]
Moose -- I mean, what do you even go by? Angle? Radius? In Cartesian you can at least start with y = something most of the time
[2016-5-23. : 1:17 am]
Moose -- Can't say I've done polar curve fitting before
[2016-5-23. : 1:16 am]
TiKels -- And it should hit all the points ideally
[2016-5-23. : 1:16 am]
TiKels -- I have a random set of polar coordinates and I want to smoothly run lines between the curves
[2016-5-23. : 1:12 am]
Moose -- What are you trying to do?
[2016-5-23. : 1:11 am]
Moose -- You could just run different curve fitting algorithms against the points
[2016-5-23. : 1:10 am]
TiKels -- Especially for polar curves
[2016-5-23. : 1:09 am]
TiKels -- Like what ensures accuracy?
[2016-5-23. : 1:09 am]
TiKels -- What's the best way to interpolate an arbitrary set of data points if I don't know the function and I'd rather not have it be linear interpolation?
[2016-5-23. : 1:09 am]
Moose -- Yeah, like we got older and got shit to do X^D
[2016-5-23. : 1:08 am]
BeatMeistro -- I mean, alot of stuff did happen over the years.
[2016-5-23. : 1:07 am]
Dem0n -- Shit stays in like 240p for five minutes
[2016-5-23. : 1:07 am]
Dem0n -- HBOGo's buffer takes fucking forever :massimo:
[2016-5-23. : 1:07 am]
BeatMeistro -- And things were kinda slow in our end. Remember back in the early 2000's were things were more eventful?
[2016-5-23. : 1:04 am]
BeatMeistro -- Yeah, Blizzard isn't what it used too. It lacks that certain "kick".
[2016-5-23. : 1:01 am]
Moose -- RIP Blizzard :rip:
[2016-5-23. : 12:55 am]
Clokr_ -- SC2 is a soulless game imo
[2016-5-23. : 12:54 am]
Clokr_ -- Blizard is pretty much dead, I can only see Activision left
[2016-5-23. : 12:44 am]
BeatMeistro -- it's kinda odd really, then again mergers do happen alot these days.
[2016-5-23. : 12:44 am]
BeatMeistro -- Oh, i remember that Blizzard and Activision were kinda a merger now.
[2016-5-23. : 12:38 am]
Clokr_ -- Activision probably does not agree
[2016-5-23. : 12:31 am]
BeatMeistro -- There shoulda been a "Art of Starcraft" book that had that sorts of stuff.
[2016-5-23. : 12:29 am]
BeatMeistro -- I think we should, ask for concept art, maybe unused stuff if they have any.
[2016-5-23. : 12:28 am]
Clokr_ -- We could try randomly emailing random SC developers to ask them this kind of silly questions
[2016-5-23. : 12:27 am]
Clokr_ -- Like a scout? I doubt anyone knows
[2016-5-23. : 12:26 am]
BeatMeistro -- or any "Independent" version of the terran buildings.
[2016-5-23. : 12:26 am]
BeatMeistro -- Still, what does the Independent Starport looked like anyways?
[2016-5-23. : 12:16 am]
Clokr_ -- We want the Cantina and the Independent Starport back!
[2016-5-22. : 11:55 pm]
BeatMeistro -- Though recreating the designs from scratch to make it appear like the official sc sprites might require some thought.
[2016-5-22. : 11:47 pm]
BeatMeistro -- We should make a collaboration mod to revive unused SC1 alpha/beta stuff.
[2016-5-22. : 11:45 pm]
BeatMeistro -- It's kinda a step closer to adding new races on SCBW.
[2016-5-22. : 11:15 pm]
Magicide -- which is excellent
[2016-5-22. : 11:07 pm]
BeatMeistro -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: What's a dat expander do
Farty is working on a way to expand the IDS found on SC's DAT files (Unit.dat for example.)
[2016-5-22. : 11:03 pm]
Dem0n -- What's a dat expander do
[2016-5-22. : 10:32 pm]
jjf28 -- Sacrieur
Sacrieur shouted: You'd have to go through and refactor a bunch of code if you made significant changes to the unmanaged library. That would be nuts.
it wouldn't be nuts if it wasn't needlessly difficult
[2016-5-22. : 9:15 pm]
Roy -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: Neat. Though that kind of sounds like streams and filters to me.
Linq builds an expression tree.
[2016-5-22. : 9:14 pm]
jjf28 -- Roy
Roy shouted: jjf28 The only bad thing I see here are the parameter names.
heh, I'm not a fan of Hungarian style but windows uses it so..
[2016-5-22. : 9:07 pm]
Roy -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: Clokr_ no kidding man http://puu.sh/p1qvc/d530b71166.png
The only bad thing I see here are the parameter names.
[2016-5-22. : 9:03 pm]
Sacrieur -- You'd have to go through and refactor a bunch of code if you made significant changes to the unmanaged library. That would be nuts.
[2016-5-22. : 9:02 pm]
Sacrieur -- linking them together is simply bad software design.
[2016-5-22. : 9:02 pm]
Clokr_ -- I agree. That's why the first thing I said is that the interop was bad.
[2016-5-22. : 9:01 pm]
Sacrieur -- And if you have to set it up so that the key functions are necessary to your application, which you'd like to do in .NET, then your managed code should be distinct from your unmanaged code. You should be calling on some service or some intermediary that runs the unmanaged code and returns what you need.
[2016-5-22. : 8:59 pm]
Sacrieur -- If performance is so key, choosing a language with a runtime at all is a mistake.
[2016-5-22. : 8:58 pm]
Clokr_ -- Well, I do agree in that case you don't need edge performance, and the .NET library should provide the means to do it fast enough.
[2016-5-22. : 8:58 pm]
Sacrieur -- Anywhere from payment systems to web apps.
[2016-5-22. : 8:57 pm]
Sacrieur -- So we get a wide variety of projects all related to business applications.
[2016-5-22. : 8:57 pm]
Sacrieur -- We do in-house software development.
[2016-5-22. : 8:57 pm]
Clokr_ -- What kind of applications do you guys do?
[2016-5-22. : 8:57 pm]
Sacrieur -- Where we're all using 10 languages to get our database to work with various things, and it's constantly breaking all the time.
[2016-5-22. : 8:57 pm]
Clokr_ -- They might be depending on the kind of application you are building.
[2016-5-22. : 8:56 pm]
Sacrieur -- And people that think that way are the reason I have the mess I have to deal with at work.
[2016-5-22. : 8:56 pm]
Sacrieur -- Clokr_
Clokr_ shouted: That's silly. Not everything can be done with .NET. There are performance and portability issues that cannot be eluded. Even the own .NET library has to call unmanaged code at some point.
Those are all very bad arguments.
[2016-5-22. : 8:43 pm]
Sacrieur -- Some plugin may give you that functionality though.
[2016-5-22. : 8:42 pm]
Sacrieur -- There's no option for it because no one does that.
[2016-5-22. : 8:42 pm]
BeatMeistro -- Emacs... Ermac... Hmmm, i wonder what that dude is up to these days.
