Saying "he" in a situation where gender is not known or important is correct... A large, possibly unrelated, example would be calling the entire human population "man". (Though I don't know why that is singular... Collective noun, maybe?)

"Man" for the human race is collective, just like "the human race" or "mankind".

And yes, "he" is the correct pronoun when referring to an object of unknown gender. If you want to talk gender sex bias though, look at German where the word for "girl" is of neutral gender, and thus uses the German equivalent of "it".
Nah, the German word for girl is Mädchen, which pretty much means little lady (chen is little) and any word with chen added onto is automatically neutral gender. It's not a bias it's just the language mechanics.

To say nothing for the feminist movement that wants to change the gender of such words.

Quote from Dictionary.com
Long before the use of generic he was condemned as sexist, the pronouns they, their, and them were used in educated speech and in all but the most formal writing to refer to indefinite pronouns and to singular nouns of general personal reference, probably because such nouns are often not felt to be exclusively singular: If anyone calls, tell them I'll be back at six. Everyone began looking for their books at once. Such use is not a recent development, nor is it a mark of ignorance. Shakespeare, Swift, Shelley, Scott, and Dickens, as well as many other English and American writers, have used they and its forms to refer to singular antecedents. Already widespread in the language (though still rejected as ungrammatical by some), this use of they, their, and them is increasing in all but the most conservatively edited American English. This increased use is at least partly impelled by the desire to avoid the sexist implications of he as a pronoun of general reference.

If nothing else, do whatever the hell you want. Call them 'it' if you want to.

Quote from Doodan
Congrats, you're starting to notice how much the world sucks like all the countless billions of others who reach a certain age. It stings, doesn't it?

You have no actual "rights". You're fooling yourself if you truly believe that. If you do truly believe it, go join the army and die for an oil crusade that you actually believe is a war for "rights" and "freedoms". If that's what you do, then the propaganda machine has worked on you.

Be like me, and see all of the carnage, chaos, and cruelty as being amusing.

Be like Doodan, be crazy.

"How absurd men are! They never use the liberties they have, they demand those they do not have. They have freedom of thought, they demand freedom of speech."

Freedom of speech, don't speak against me
You can own a gun, but please don't use it
Social status, the deciding factor
Of whether I can use the rights you've given me
Privelages for the rich man
Welfare for the poor man
what about me? I'm just the middle man
Left out like the middle child

That's not even a complete thought

Relatively ancient and inactive

The grammatical discussion is pointless as languages today are fueled by prejudices of yesterday - nothing more interesting then that.

As for human rights, they're really ideals. Yes, most people like the idea. However, most people are also hypocrites (myself not excluded) and only use the human rights things when it suits them. Eventually, the ideal can become reality, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Exactly, I just felt a need to defend Deutsch from insolence as it deserves.
