Theres one fatal flaw in map protection. Mappers can't use the maps to learn how to implement features.
So, what I've started doing is making example maps or small little maps that have one system in them that will show them an example of what is happening. I think this system is very good to teach new mappers.

Theres some good ones <a target="_blank" href="http://falkoner.cow.googlepages.com/Maps.html">here</a>, compliments of falkoner. I tried the test pack, its pretty cool.

There's a Tutorials section and a UMS Assistance section if you want to learn things. Maps are protected for a reason and fellow mappers should respect that reason by not opening a map, even if it is for learning. If you want to learn things, asking is always a good solution.

I think there's plenty of unprotected maps that show good examples of certain systems, but I see no problem if you want to create your own set of maps with the goal of being purely for example. It wouldn't hurt anyone and would only do good.

I also think writing a separate tutorial that would go with the system would also be good. Then they could be put into the Tutorials section of SEN if they get it back.

I've got some of the more advanced concepts here:

<a target="_blank" href="http://Falkoner.CoW.GooglePages.com/Tutorials.html">http://Falkoner.CoW.GooglePages.com/Tutorials.html</a>

I've found that new mappers find those tutorials easier to understand than most of the tutorials made by other people, it's also the only site with terrain tutorials.

Hmm, Gerrard, I really have no idea, I might add a few more tutorials, just the more complex ones, like binary count-offs, but I don't think I'll ever do as many as I wanted, since with SC2 coming out it would just end up being a waste.

I'll have a fairly decent example map database when I release them.
Hell, I even implemented a shared EXP system, as in, everyone gains EXP the same, but can lose it differently.

Just submit your map to a map making website, like SeN, even if you map is stolen, the people who really matter know who's it really is.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

The best way to learn something is to contruct systems by yourself.
Play maps with working systems and first try to copy the system.
Then try to make it better. Often you can do it better.
If you always fail, you can still ask in a forum like this.
So OSmap is not needed. Just use your brain and try to create new systems coming up to your mind.
the direct solution is not always the best...
And yes, my famoust map was stolen, but I just fixed (nearly) every bug out of the game.

I remember Staredit.net used to have a mobile grid tutorial in the Experimental section (maybe it was in Other, I don't remember). It was a small movie map that walked through the mobile grid techniques. Highly useful, and I wish I hadn't lost it.

I have deleted all discussion about map unprotection vs. protection. The purpose of this topic is to discuss and share example maps.

By the way, this isn't really a 'new' idea but if you do make example maps, mad props to you sir.
