Just here for the pie

Wonder how our intelligence stat decreased if we just did the most intelligent thing possible.

Leave the building and go home.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

You quietly set down the wad of paper you had been throwing around and quickly exit the building. Without looking back or calling your mother for a ride, your face flush with frustration and embarrassment as you quickly strode forward. By the time you get home the lights are off at your house as it is clearly past midnight. You quietly unlock the door and quickly walk up the staircase into your room. It doesn't take long before you quickly find yourself asleep.

When you wake up, the sun has risen above the treeline. It must be eleven already. You quickly snap awake and step out of bed, quietly checking your phone for new messages.

"One new message. First new message:"

"Hello Violet, this is Pauline. It is currently 9:35 and I noticed you're not in the office yet. I'm sorry I left you so suddenly yesterday, but that is no excuse to come in to work late today. Please call me back immediately if you plan on taking a sick day, and be advised that you only receive three sick days a year and must call twenty four hours in advance. As you are new to the company I'll let this one slide as long as you call, otherwise you are a no call no show and I have to report you to HR."

Call her. Tell her that you're coming in to work today. When you return home make sure to set your alarm (and make sure it's audible) for a reasonable time, e.g. two hours before work starts the next day.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

You quickly call Pauline and assure her you'll be in to work. Already being home, you set your alarm for a reasonable time for the following morning, and then quietly sit on your bed.

Make sure your physical appearance is appropriate for work, drink some water so you don't get dehydrated, and then go to work. Have your mom drive you. If she can't, use public transportation. If that's not possible, try to get a ride from a friend, or walk. Don't forget to breathe.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

You get yourself looking nice for work and admire yourself in the mirror - you probably look even better than you did yesterday. You drink a couple glasses of water and then look around the house for your mom. She has already left for work. You walk to the bus station feeling pretty confident on such a beautiful afternoon - why can't all jobs start this late in the day? The bus ride is not cramped as it otherwise would be with commuters and even the streets are quiet and moving along at a steady pace. You mull over the excuse you are going to tell Pauline but can't come up with anything. Besides isn't this really her fault for making you stay so late without telling you where she went? You cannot be held responsible.

You take the elevator up to your floor. The cute guy from yesterday is nowhere to be seen - you are slightly disappointed that he didn't have the privilege of seeing your extra pampered self. You get out on your floor and confidently walk back towards her office. Pauline is standing at a desk talking to another coworker about something serious at the far end of the room. No one has taken notice of you yet.

Approach Pauline slowly, attempting to get her attention without disturbing her conversation.

None.

Wait for Pauline to finish talking with the other person, then approach Pauline, apologizing for being so late. Tell her that you had a family emergency (you are part of your own family, right?) and that this won't happen again.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

You mill awkwardly around the cubicles surrounding Pauline, hoping she'll notice you without you having to interrupt her. Nearby you see two young office temps looking to be a few years younger than you, gossiping among themselves. You pretend to be searching for something in a file drawer and drift closer to listen in, "does she do any real work? I see her come in and out of that office everyday...but I never see her accomplish anything."

"Oh I know, yesterday she was in the basement all day harassing the mail clerks. Patty told me that Louis told her that he saw her down there berating Jim because he "lost" a package. Guess what, the package never existed!" the two girls giggle. They spy you getting closer and so stop their conversation and walk away. You thought about following them, trying to pick your way through the unfamiliar cubicles to get back towards the girls...

"Violet," Pauline's sharp voice nearly makes you jump, "please see me in my office, we need to talk." Confused and a little disappointed that you were unable to listen in further, you walk into Pauline's cramped office dejected. The mess you made the night before seems to have disappeared; in fact, there are no papers on her desk at all. "Here, your IDs," she said after you dutifully sit down at the chair on the other side of her desk. You put the cards into your wallet as quietly as you can, but the sound still seems to echo off of the now barren nooks and crannies. She shuts the door behind you and sits at her desk. "Now typically we are supposed to have a long stern talk about how important attendance is. It would be prudent from now on for you to show up on time and for the shift assigned. However you said there was some sort of family emergency - proof of this is all I need in order to accept the excuse. I'm sorry that seems strict but as this is only your second day we have to treat such incidents with scrutiny."

Burst into crocodile tears, sobbing about how your grandmother that lives continents away had a heartattack and you received news about it last night, therefore making you unable to sleep, ruining your perfect attendance of one day because you were unable to fall asleep until sunrise. If she fails to buy it, tell her you'll get your grandmother's hospital bill once she gets out ^^ .

Pauline seems completely taken aback by your sudden increase in emotion. She is unsure as to whether or not it is professional enough for her to pat you on the back, or your hand, or if she should say "there, there." After several minutes of crying and realizing Pauline still has no idea how to deal with the emotions you dry heave until the tears stop and say, "s-sorry. It's still so current. We're such a close family and I, I don't know where, where I'd be with-without her..." you cry a little longer. Pauline seems content on letting you cry to your heart's content.

You give Pauline a hug. "Alright that's enough of that, yes yes...okay..." she says uncomfortably, trying to push your clinging body away from her. "Ah so back to business...I need you to take this to the QA offices. Fifth floor, room 508. There should be an attendant at a front desk. Can you do that for me?"

How? We don't have the required boson-neutrino conversion hardware. First we must observe our surroundings.

After some rummaging, you find Boson-neutrino conversion hardware behind Pauline's desk. Unfortunately your intellect score is not high enough to properly pick up or install it.
