lol, I made an image of the tiny world and when I saw its current state I just had to post it:



I also have a new version of my mod. It fixes the max players server crash and adds chat and sign editing enhancements including scrollback for chat (with keyboard, using up/down, page up/down, home/end), canceling text input with the escape key, and changing the text insertion point with left/right.

All previous mods I've mentioned are included, plus these changes:

One thing this does is it fixes the water candle effect to apply to the correct item, instead of band of regeneration. If I'm interpreting things correctly, (with the item ID fix) it only applies when you have the water candle selected (holding it out) and it stacks if multiple players are holding out their water candles. Other than in single player, the effect might only be calculated server-side.

While looking at this, I discovered values called defaultSpawnRate and defaultMaxSpawns, which affect the time between spawns and the maximum number that can spawned until it stops spawning. (I'm not the first to see this, of course) I've added server commands to change these (spawnrate and maxspawns). Minimum value for spawn rate is 0, meaning they will just spawn constantly. Max spawns can be 0 to spawn none or up to some number probably less than 1000, since max NPCs is 1000. (not sure what will happen if all the NPC slots get filled)

I've also added beforedawn and beforedusk commands for if you want it to trigger the things that normally happen when changing from night to day or day to night, unlike the dawn and dusk commands that don't trigger those. Note that when normally passing into day, it saves the world file, so you might not want to trigger that too fast (though the game might already have something to keep bad things from happening).

It was actually easier, in a way. So many things to destroy that I was getting lots of hearts, and there is a limit to how quickly you can be hit, plus I had my Cobalt Shield on. I didn't even need to go back up for a breath.

If you don't like it, then it must be hell.

Time needed to load the largest size (93 MB) world. (Tiles processed into its own unique array)


Proof showing the reading of the entire file was successful. (You can't read chests/signs/npcs unless you process the tiles correctly, because the format is linear you can only go one way and can't jump to a specific section)

Heinermann, did you ever figure out what the smallest viable worldsize is? I know it doesn't crash all the time, but there must be some kind of requirements the generator needs or goes by.

For the generator I was only able to go to 750x564, and if either dimension was smaller it would either freeze or crash. It will occasionally freeze, but it will create a world with an underwater dungeon.

For a custom world I think the screen size is the limit.

I think I know why our jungle farm isn't spawning anything

The enemies only spawn @ open spaces.. and since the jungle vines cover everything, we don't get any.
See, when I weeded out the vines, tons of hornets started spawning.. I even got a man eater :D

Players with a name over 20 characters will now get booted from the server.
Added some minor anti-grief protection.
Fixed a bug that would cause the client to attempt to summon an NPC during a multiplayer game and crash.
Added the -host command line parameter to the client.
Server
Improved server timing, which should help reduce lag.
Added several new command line and config options. These are listed in serverconfig.txt
Servers will now output to crashlog.txt before crashing, allowing for more specific bug reporting.
Clients will now output to client-crashlog.txt before crashing, allowing for more specific bug reporting.
Misc.
Screen resolutions now have limits of 800x600 minimum and 1920x1200 maximum.
Added an option that will pause the game while talking to an NPC or opening your inventory in single player. It defaults to off.
Added an option to automatically save the world every 10 minutes. Defaults to on.
Added a prompt to load a world backup if the current world is corrupt.
Added a check to determine if a world file was loaded successfully.
