Last Saturday evening, when I was about to turn off the computer and go to sleep, the shutdown button said something-or-another close to "Click this to install updates and shutdown your computer."
Naturally, I clicked it, then saw the "installing update 1 of 3". I turned off the monitor and went to bed.
Lo and behold when I came back Monday morning (Don't use computer on Sundays) it was still turned on.
Confused, I turned on the monitor, and saw the pre-login screen which said "configuring update 3 of 3: 0%".
I gave it no second thought, and I was about to go do something for 15 minutes when I saw it briefly flash to my login screen, then immediately say "shutting down".
I waited a few seconds for something to change. The computer shut down, then immediately restarted and soon after said "configuring update 3 of 3: 0%", then a brief one-second flash of my login screen, then "shutting down" again.
Apparently it had been doing this all Sunday, stuck in an endless loop.
I tried each and every one of the startup options (safe mode, normal, last known good setup, etc.) but it performed the same loop told above. One option, however, showed a text wall of windows starting up each of its individual .system files, and when it got to one in particular (for the life of me I can't remember which one), it stopped, then followed the loop.
I then assumed that my OS was broken and I needed a new one.
I burned the ubuntu OS from another computer onto a CD and installed it on this computer, no problems involved.
Afterwards I acquired the files to install Windows 7, I put them on an empty 60 gb external hard drive.
(Lots of crazy stuff that I now realized was completely unnecessary happened here over the course of 5 hours)
I downloaded WINE so I could run the setup.
The setup ran, then...
tl;dr version: See picture below.
No freaking clue what to do or how to do it. 30 minutes of Googling hasn't helped me.
Edit 1: It work won't if I set the boot priority to USB in the BIOS thing.

You don't install windows 7 via wine There's two things you can do. You can install win7 on a virtual machine (probably virtualbox, easy enough to use) which means you run it on your ubuntu desktop in a window or fullscreen, but it won't be quite as fast as if it was installed by itself. Or, you can add a partition to your hard drive using ubuntu and install it on there by inserting the windows 7 setup disk.
Wait, what was the program that would boot up Ubuntu from the start menu? I don't think it was a wine, I think it closed Windows for you when he clicked the button. It started with an M...Mike showed it to me many years ago.
I've heard that installing windows from USB is rather difficult to do. Whenever I reinstall an OS, I just boot from CD. Get an image, put it on a cd, boot from the CD and then follow the installation instructions -you can't go wrong.

I don't have any CDs that can hold the 2.4 GB that is Windows 7... it says they can hold around 750 MB.
Your first mistake was trying to use Ubuntu as a replacement for windows.
In the future, stick your windows disc and load up the repair utility or whatever its called. Assuming you didn't disable restore points, you can just restore back to before you installed updates.
TheHappy115 -- Yea, thats the issue. Thanks. It would also explain why my deleted map couldn't get updated. Updated version reduced collision on units (only thing added) since was dodging game (players collide with each other)

Ultraviolet -- If so, I'd just focus on getting them on scmscx.com and then you can link to that in the showcase thread for your maps

Ultraviolet -- I can't upload my EUD maps, I think the DLDB has some issue with handling them. Are you trying to upload EUD maps?

TheHappy115 -- Its been awhile but ever since I requested one of the Maps I posted to be deleted since I couldn't delete it myself (or update it), I haven't been able to upload any more maps. Any reason for that?
