People have more fun playing my map on b.net than they do with Azrael's map. So, maybe the rating system is retarded.
People have more fun going outside than playing your map. Doesn't mean a text file saying "go outside" scores better than a fully functional map that follows the rubric.
That really doesn't make any sense, man.
None.
I do care it just was my project was too large to finish within the 2 week span... even after i took a few shortcuts there still a ton of stuff too do...
None.

It doesn't really matter how
fun your map is, if it's missing the requirements for a category it shouldn't get any points for it. Gameplay is the interaction between the player and the game in a way such that the player may directly affect the game. Although amusing to watch, the movie map has no such "gameplay".
Similarly, if you submitted Desert Strike Ultima Platinum or whatever for this contest, it would score no points in originality, no points in theme, and probably fail the contest after Nude complains that you stole his map to score a meager amount of minerals.
"But it's fun! People like playing this map more than all the other entries!"
Uh, no.
None.
God, my map was SO unoriginal. It's been done a hundred times before I'm sure. No wonder the evolves rip-off got more originality points.
None.
The way it used to work with SEN contests, if I recall correctly, was that a map that scored "0" in the "theme" category got no points at all. Since the rules still state that "The submitted maps must adhere to the prescribed theme", wouldn't that apply here as well?
The danger with a joke submission is that the judges might find it funny...or they might just be offended that you decided to waste their time and lower the status of their contest. In my opinion, if you don't take the contest seriously, that's fine, but you should be prepared for a score that doesn't take
you seriously in return-- fuck with the man at your own peril etc., etc.
None.
No wonder the evolves rip-off got more originality points.
I guess you've never played an evolves map, or you wouldn't keep saying this. Sorry to embarrass you.
http://strategywiki.org/wiki/StarCraft/EvolvesHaving a unit masser in a map doesn't make it an "evolves rip-off." It's not like evolves even introduced the concept.
Of course, feel free to continue your ranting about a map that took you less than an hour to make and doesn't even attempt to follow the theme of the contest, which ironically you're the one who chose. We get it, it's super original because the entire map is a trigger that does "Center location, move unit, preserve trigger." Wow, amazing. I can see why you'd be so defensive about it

Common sense would dictate, yes.
At this point I think he's just desperate for attention.
Edit: Not to say I feel I deserve more than a 5/10 for originality. It is more or less a mesh of generic map elements with the addition of mass controlling/suiciding enemy units along with your own. A map that doesn't even adhere to the theme should be given a 0 though, otherwise there's no point even having a theme.

Well, you have a point here.
Otherwise, define the word 'originality.' I'm not sure this category is meant to refer to the internal triggering of the map, but instead is referring to the map as a whole.
My point here is that the rating system isn't the best. Here's a hypothetical scenario. Let's say Probert the Probe had something to do with empires. It could have been submitted to this contest and would have lost to Azrael's map. Is that what you would consider fair?
Anyways. I'm done ranting about it. I want my 20 minerals.

I'm not party to the original dispute here, so I don't know what the "party line" is with regards to the gameplay category, but the original rules text for that category lists the following bullet points:
•Does the map keep the player's constant attention?
•Is the map too hard, too easy?
•Is the map actually fun?
I see no reason why a movie map couldn't score at least gameplay points on the first and third counts. That said, Starcraft movie maps-- which are, in the very best cases, watched once (unless you're trying to spread it to others), with very mild amusement-- aren't exactly quality playing, so it makes sense that they would tend to get fairly low scores. We find some movie maps notable for being good
for movie maps...but quite honestly, that's not saying much. If the judging criteria seem to favor non-movie maps, it's because they pick up on aspects that movie maps are genuinely lacking. Yes, that means that even a very good movie map would usually get a low score...but that would only be unfair if there was some inherent equality between map genres, which there isn't.

Sigh, I say enough with the E-DRama and let us continue to the next contest U.U is going to host. Agreed?

Judging Score
Conquest by Azrael-Wrath
Propaganda brutality- Gameplay: 6/10
- A Madness game is a madness game. This one doesn't have any heroes or anything either. So there's not many strategies. I don't really enjoy the propaganda thing. I felt that there could be better ways to do it.. maybe give like a certain # of units.. or build structures of propaganda. Or even affect other person in some certain ways. Giving all units is just a bit too broken.
- It makes the game sort of a waiting thing.. where you wait for the other person to use up their propaganda so you use yours. It could work better if there's a time limit or SOMETHING.
- Originality: 5/10
- Propaganda is quite interesting. But besides that, it's a madness game.
- Aesthetics: 5/10
- Not really good... This could've worked with square terrain or something. It is a lil bland right now. But you can't really do much with madness games.
- Theme: 5/5 - ...
- Completion: 4/5
- Feels unfinished. Not much more to say
- Total: 25/40
The Saddest Map on SC by Leeroy_Jenkins
THAT'S CRAZY TALK BABY! COME ON!- Gameplay: 0/10
- Obviously if this was a Movie-Map theme, then the maps wouldn't be rated by "Gameplay"
- Originality: 6/10
- A love story that is crippled by the melancholy of the mind. Two grizzly deaths mark the tragedy of the decade.
- Aesthetics: 6.5/10
- I like the use of terrain.. and the Observer move-away is nice
- Theme: 0/5 - Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill myself!
- Completion: 3/5
- PLEASE! WHAT ABOUT OUR CHILDREN!?
- Total: 15.5/40
None.
Lol Unholy, good scoring on Conquest, pretty much what I'd have said. I didn't invest much time into the design or implementation because I knew there was pretty much no one else entering. I figured a madness map is basically empire-themed already without much else needed, just added propaganda so it wouldn't feel totally generic (oh yeah, and mass suicide
).
You need to give me a time you're free and we can finish Autocracy RPG. I don't have our save file anymore because I formatted a few days ago, but hopefully you do.

Conquest by Azrael.Wrath

-------------
Gameplay 6/10
-------------
Pros:
-Simple features make the game relatively easy to play in public games.
-Propaganda is well implemented and needs to be used strategically.
Cons:
-It's almost impossible to get your civilian through the hordes of zerglings; getting it to an enemy's beacon is impossible if he's aware of its presence and retaliates accordingly. An aerial unit or any zergling could have been a better way of conquering.
-Zerglings mass up very quickly and become nearly impossible to maneuver in the small arena. Transforming a certain number of zergling into heroes, making them easier to kill or making the bases' defenses more powerful would have been a better idea.
-Propaganda almost singlehandedly controls the outcome of a game; it's not necessarily a bad thing but a player who waits to the very end to use them would get a definite advantage. I'm not sure if there was a limit to the amount you could hold but, if it's not the case, then you should definitely add one.
----------------
Originality 5/10
----------------
Aside from propaganda, the game is a little too derivative. The lack of other features makes it fall short of the regular "massing" games like battlecraft.
---------------
Aesthetics 4/10
---------------
The terrain was very bland and seemed too randomly thrown together in some places. Square terrain to limit the size of walls, obstacles and the "massing" area could have been more appropriate.
---------
Theme 4/5
---------
Not much pertained to empires but within the perspective of a lore-less massing game, it would have been difficult to conform it further to the theme.
--------------
Completion 4/5
--------------
There were a few bugs related to medics not being spawned properly and zerglings constantly moving to a location even when the dark templar was off the beacons. There was nothing drastic though.
-------------
Overall 23/40
-------------
The idea of propaganda, albeit simple, adds great depth to the map and it's a shame that the rest of the features are somewhat either badly implemented or too simple. I'm sure a lot more work could be done around that single feature to make a tremendous game.

The saddest map by Leeroy_Jenkins
=================================
--------------
Gameplay: 0/10
--------------
None to speak of.
----------------
Originality 3/10
----------------
The mapping concepts were fairly generic but the story itself was somewhat novel for starcraft.
---------------
Aesthetics 5/10
---------------
Just dirt and mud won't get you very far in this category. The visual effects were very bland. Although there was only one tune, it was true to the mood and conveyed more emotion.
---------
Theme 0/5
---------
It had nothing to do with empires.
--------------
Completion 5/5
--------------
There were no bugs.
-------------
Overall 13/40
-------------
The sketch is somewhat funny the first time you watch it. Additional characters, plot and effects and developing them would definitely have made it more enjoyable.
None.
