OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Quote from Blizzard Entertainment
You've conquered the single-player campaign and climbed the multiplayer ladder -- but do you have what it takes to be a StarCraft II custom map designer?

In our first-ever StarCraft II Custom Map Contest, we're challenging you to craft the most fun, creative, and polished custom map that the galaxy’s ever seen.

If you think you've got the skills, fire up the StarCraft II Editor that came with your copy of the game and get started. The Editor is a powerful, robust, and complete development tool, and it's everything you'll need to build your creation. Keep in mind that we’re looking for originality, innovation, and fun, so whether you want to make the next DotA, craft a mini-RPG, or concoct a third-person shooter, let your imagination run wild.

Even if you've got some experience creating custom maps, you'll want to kick your efforts into overdrive for this one, because the stakes are high. We’ll be choosing three winners to represent the best of what the mapmaking community has to offer. If your custom map is one of those selected, you'll win a trip to BlizzCon 2010 (including airfare and accommodations), and BlizzCon attendees from all over the world will have a chance to play your creation in the StarCraft II demo area at the convention. Of course, it can't hurt to have some spending cash while you're in town, so we'll also throw in $5,000 prize money for each winner.

Map makers will have until September 11 to submit their entries. For full details, including submission requirements, check out the contest rules and eligibility page.

Only until September 11th? That's so short! :hurr:

I must win this, not for me, but for SEN. First I need to learn how to map better.

I agree. I should really get on finishing one of my maps for this contest, and slap a big ol' SEN logo on it.

:payne:

I offer my services to concoct great Custom Loading Screen to anyone sending me his final product.
I found out most of the people trying to advertise SEN we're setting too much distraction all around and it made it look unprofessional.
The thing is simple: only image should be about SEN. Any other background would be distraction.

Anyways, I'll give it a try and, for sure, I'll submit Impossible Quantum for this! :)
@Loveless: Astrogears?
@Lethal+Devourer: Puzzle map?

Oh and whoever wins. Please tell them to fix the popular maps on top matchmaking system and the game lobby functionality (am I the only one that's annoyed by the fact that you can't change slots?)

Since I don't have SC2, there's no way I can enter this contest, especially in this short time..

However, I'm willing to help as much as possible with idea building, brainstorming, and theorycrafting.

By submitting the map you grant licensing rights to Blizzard Entertainment, and will not display, post, or share it until after the contest closes on September 11, 2010.
Can anyone:
1. Confirm this is true.
2. Tell me if that means we cannot publish the map bug-test or anything? I had in mind to post Impossible Quantum, though it already has a thread and everything. If needed, I'd just delete the thread until Sept. 11. ;o

What if two people work on a map together? They never said that wasn't allowed.

The official rules say the following:
How to Enter:
To enter, a qualified entrant will complete the entry checklist and thereafter submit an original, unreleased, UMS custom map created with the StarCraft II World Editor (each submission referred to herein as a "Map") at www.blizzcon.com. A "UMS" custom map is a map created using the StarCraft II map editor that uses custom settings defined by the user with customizable win conditions, units, triggers, and other components available in the StarCratft II Map Editor. Each Map shall be submitted subject to the following requirements:
  • (i) A Map should be a "Custom," UMS map, and not 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 Map (aka, "Melee Maps"). Melee Maps will not be considered in the judging process;
  • (ii) The Map shall not exceed 10 megabytes in size;
  • (iii) Voice over tracks that are incorporated into a Map shall be in the English language, and shall not feature explicit or obscene language;
  • (iv) All music featured in the Map must either be the entrant’s original musical composition and performance, or music from a Blizzard product; and
  • (v) The terms and conditions of the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty End User License Agreement shall be strictly enforced, subject to these Rules. In the event that Sponsor feels that a Movie was created in violation of the foregoing agreements and/or policies, such as through the use of a "Private Server," that Map will be disqualified from the Contest.

The only thing to backup that claim is "unreleased," but I don't see it saying you can't share it before the contest deadline.

I hope I can finish my map before September 11th. I'm going to Miami and Haiti on the last week of August. Better work hard this coming week! I got a lot to learn too, so I'm going to be making a pre-feel map before it.

There should be a copy of this in the Sc2 Contest section to ensure that categories are being used properly.

I was still sceptical so I've read the Rules again, more carefully this time.
I confirm it wasn't written anywhere that we should not publish or show or blah-blah our work before we get the Contest's results.

... BUT!

It's when you go on to submit your map that you find this close (translated from French because for some reason I'm stuck with the French page):
Quote
By submitting this map I am granting licensing rights to Blizzard Entertainment, and will not display, post, or share it until after the contest closes on September 11, 2010.*

But I think we can work-around that rule (>:D): it's stating we agree not to share the map we are submitting. Can we consider this talks about "the map in its current form"? Any precedent version wouldn't be affected in any way by the rule.

Just a thought. ;o
Anyone can confirm?

P.S. This is my 4000th post! :awesome:

Post has been edited 1 time(s), last time on Aug 18 2010, 7:25 am by payne. Reason: Found the good quote.

You could twist the rule payne, but then again, blizz may just disqualify your map...

Technically I don't think posting a production thread or something disqualifies you since you aren't sharing the map itself, just images and some info about it. Unfortunately any map that has been released or published (despite being unpublished or deleted) is disqualified.
