Is it worth manually splitting workers in SC2? Keep in mind I don't split them all that fast, as a pretty fail melee'r.
Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
If you can divide them by 3s, its better that way. But manually dividing them one by one is not worth it in SC2.

I agree, it seems impossible and the workers float to other minerals fast enough by themselves. Splitting them into two groups to two separate mineral groups seems easiest and best.

Send six to a mineral field and pick off three somewhere else.

Optimal splitting in SC2 is sending 3 groups of 2 to 3 different patches. I've only seen it done once.

I've been experimenting with this lately and the best I've seen is to move all to the far mineral (on the edge or one away from the edge) and while they're in transit, select half and order them to a middle one.

.. You should never send them to the furthest mineral. It's obvious you're starting at a disadvantage. If you're doing it simply because it's easier to select the other half, then you're going to be in loss when your level of play goes higher.

I can do it when the game lags at the start.

I think optimal splitting is to send each worker to their own patch instantly.

Relatively ancient and inactive
I think the difference is minimal, since from what I've seen SCII automatically splits two perfectly and sends them directly to their patches.

I used to do 2 groups of 3 until I realized that sending in pairs worked better. After that I just sent 2-4 into 2-2-2. But really, it makes almost no difference.
