What to do about the forum system? Possibilities:
1a. Everything in one forum index, making the # of forums possibly large.
1b. Everything in one forum index, cut down on the forum row's height to achieve a smaller, more compact page.
2. Everything in one forum index, cut down drastically on SC1 forums. Possible complications due to forum merges as far as clutterness.
3. Split the forum index into SC1 and SC2, such as that there's two forum indexes under the forum group. SC1 and SC2. An option could be enabled, possibly, just to merge them all into one if you like option 1.
4. Split the forum index into SC1 and SC2, such that a link on the forums switches between them (probably be pref based on cookies). As such, you default to SC2. If you click link to switch, it'll stay on SC1 until you switch back.
With options 3 and 4, the general forums and site forums would be shown on both.
Discuss. You can also suggest how the sc2 forums should be categorized and named.

1a. I like being able to see new posts without having to click.

1a or 3.
If 1a, here's an idea from

I stole the main layout from Devlin, but I modified it a bit, how you like it?

And leave the SC1 untouched for now until the activity really goes down.
All main forums (in blue) would have their little "+/-" to minimize them, as it is right now.
Of course, have a "StarCraft I" and a "StarCraft II" forum grouping all the sub-forums and make them minimizable too.
None.
By modified, do you mean removed SC1?

SC1 tab and SC2 tab. Do it.
There could also be an option, for 1, to hide SC1 forums completely.
None.
While splitting the index into two subforums is desirable for the potential dichotomy of members that they attract, cf. iCCup's forums, it's a bit frustrating to navigate if they are strictly split forcing navigation between two pages. An extremely long page, however, also has the problem of virtually "burying" the forums that are on the bottom.
Option 3 seems to be the best implementation, just mask the forums the users are not "viewing" using a cookie of some sort.
None.
The SC1 map making forums are extremely inactive anyway, so I just suggest merging a ton of them when SC2 is released.

Merging presents little to no benefits, aesthetic or otherwise. Merging creates a ton of problems and doesn't solve any if the SC1 forums can be toggled off.
The problem is that I'm sure it'll take a lot of work to merge them.
No it doesn't
. But the objection still stands.
None.
The problem is that I'm sure it'll take a lot of work to merge them... and whenever we'd like to look at something in there, everything will have changed and all old members will be lost.
Why not leaving it as it is and just hide it in a minimized tab?
None.
Alright, I was just trying to save space since it seemed like (from the other thread) that SEN wasn't going to separate SC1 and 2 into separate indexes.

^ It's up for discussion.
I don't really care about reading the old thread, opinions might have changed etc. Fresh topic, I'll probably roll with something in a few hours and see how it looks.
None.
I say stick with #3, then, and for SC2 forums, create:

Custom Map Showcase

Starcraft II AssistanceMiscellaneous
Triggers
Terrain
Modeling
Skinning
Starcraft II MeleeMelee Strategy
Melee Assistance

The Starcraft 1 forums are still active, so there is no reason to remove them. As for Starcraft II, you should probably gradually transition to it instead of creating a bunch of forums all at once. If there is too much activity in the current SC2 forum, then add another, gradually branching out.
There are already SC2 map-making sites, and SEN has no SC2 coverage at all, so I find it difficult to believe that SEN will be a hub for SC2 mapping/modding.
Let me show you how to hump without making love.

This, but make the portal news, staredit network, Other, clans, and project forums be on both tabs, both exactly the same.

This.
Just like the wiki replacing tutorials, tabs are the next thing for forums, and SEN must have them.
I think that was the idea anyway.
