ESCAPE FROM HELL -RPG-

I wasn't going to post this map in the showcase because it's not really that big of a map, but then I saw "OMFG! 1 Billion Zerglings!" and realized that there are maps posted in here that probably took less work than mine.

This thread is to promote people noticing and downloading my map, as it was made for the BETA KEY MAPPING CONTEST (of which I declare shenanigans), but since that is no longer happening, I at least want my map to serve some purpose - and that would be having people playing it and having fun.

This map has a lame storyline, basically you are in hell for reasons that are explained in the map. You need to escape hell, which turns out surprisingly easy, which makes you wonder why the creepy guy that keeps talking to you has been trying to escape for... well, eternity. The storyline is not important though. The important part is that each beast you fight is not going to be a normal starcraft unit. We've all killed a regular zergling with a zealot before, and it gets old. That's why in this map you fight four boss-like creatures that all have their own special abilities. You've got that and a few neat mapping tricks and that about sums this RPG up! Like I said, it's short. So by playing this you're not committing the next three hours of you life.

A couple of pictures to glance at...

Valkyrie missiles that hurt your zealot! :omfg:

Demons that split into two when they're dead! :dontgetit:

So, play it, tell me how you like it, and have fun!

Looks pretty interesting. I always thought about creating rpg, but then when I put my first trigger, I'm like nah this is going to take too long.

By the way, a map isn't all about how much work you put into it, a map can be complicated but boring. it's also how fun it is, which is why you see "OMFG! 1 BILLION ZERGLINGS!" ten times whenever you log onto b.net. It's a simple game that didn't take long too make but it has a good concept.

Fighting 1,000,000,000 zerglings just takes way too long, so even if you do survive, it will take up a very long time.

I played this map for a little bit, and liked it so far, so I'm gonna continue and see if I don't die within the next few minutes.

Yeah. It takes like fifteen minutes, if even, to complete. So good luck :bleh:

I wasn't dissing on that map, just saying I thought this forum was for like super huge projects that just got completed or something.

Dude. I love the atmosphere this map has. If you don't mind, can I borrow your burning craters thing for a map?

It's open source for a reason! Take whatever technique you want out of this map. :D

How did you get the valkyrie missles to damage a zealot, that's cool. Or is it a secret? :bleh:

I'm guessing he got two sets of Valkyries, both out of view, to shoot at each other, while constantly replenishing their health. He then just used a fixed location (and possibly DDS) to damage the Zealot.

'Course, I haven't played the map yet (though I certainly will!), so I cannot be certain.

The damage is done with the Direct Damage System (DDS), and the effect of it visually taking damage is done by an observer centered over the zealot.

I like it!
A very good job on the map
I especially like the valkyrie missiles and the burning craters. I assume you made the craters from disabled bunkers/disabled flying terran building?

Yeah the demon and splitting units were pretty cool concepts!

Someone give this guy a beta key!

Ok, after playing this, even though im not a judge, ill give it my utmost analysis.

-Gameplay
Its fun. I liked the gameplay, really nice atmosphere, however, I didnt see any areas where a player's skill is tested. I dont see how you can avoid the DDS when passing the valks. You have to kill most of the units in order pass (i dodged ultra). Triggers wouldnt fire when i avoided the spliting ling. In general, Player A would most likely take the same course as Player B. I played this and won it the first time. After that i lost all motivation to play it again, cause theres nothing different. To top it off, its 1 player, which kind of takes away the teamwork and innovation that 2+ maps have.
A 5/10 for nice gameplay but it doesnt change, which is a critical for most maps.

-Originality
Ok, ill give you this 1. Very orginal concept, specially the valk DDS area. Never seen an rpg like this, rather unique.
A 7/10 for originality. Its not 10/10 because there wasnt really anything that left me saying "omg why didn't I think of that"

-Professionalism
There are no flaws in grammar, however, why arent there any names on the units? Ya it supports the "mysterious atmosphere", but that would later be revealed in dialogue. Another thing that bothered me was the voices. When did Satan sound like zerg? Meh, guess ppl have different perspectives. A 8/10 for professionalism

-Theme
You matched the theme nicely, well, ya...its hell. Really nice touch with the bunks. Nothing much to comment. 5/5.

-Completion
Hoo..how should put this, there are still some bugs in the game, like when i dodged the z-ling and none of the triggers fired. I also dodged ultra and 2 ultras appeared the 2nd time i came back. Other than dodge bugs nothing else i saw, cept that 25/25 hp scrouge :P, but that irrelvant. A 4/5 for borderline completion.

-Conclusion
29/40, for a short rpg, thats a pretty good score. I standby my view that nothing really allows a player to be innovative in the game.
I suggest you put more missions in, while also allowing players to choose which mission they want to play.
These are only my views and im sure most ppl have different perspective of the map. :)

Ya. I didn't make it all the way through the game, I died. :(

I realized it was a DDS system because when I ran out there was a scarab chasing me down. lol
• It had nice scenery for hell.
• No replay value, which is why I didn't bother to go back and beat it.
• Humor, which is rare for a SC map, but it was funny
