Has anyone ever used this program? Because I (finally) downloaded it without paying the idiotic price that it comes with in hopes of creating this fun little game I've always wanted to isolate and expand (a specific excerpt from Pokemon Gameboy, don't remember which version, Red maybe). When it comes to code, I'm not the best person. I've been looking on youtube at basic codes, such as making an object move with the arrow keys, or making a simple "don't touch the walls" maze with a win/lose screen, but I need to know the following, IF you know how to code/use the program:

Make an object move when you use the arrow keys
once the object has begun to move, it continues to move until it hits an obstacle and the arrow keys will not work while it is in motion (like sliding on ice)

That's all I really need to know, how to make it so you can't move it after you move it, at least while it's in motion, and how to make it stop when it hits something. I can supply the rest.

I think here is the best place to ask about this, since I'd be unfamiliar with any other official flash forum. Plus you guys are all gamerz/makerz, so hopefully someone can respond! Thankx!

Just Here For The Pie

I really hate the Action Script 3.0. It completely turned my whole world upside down.
Even though TechnicalLead has told me many times that I should switch over, I probably never will.

Macromedia for the win!

I have used Flash CS4 once... in school... I don't think I will ever understand it.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

http://mikestickney.com/wordpress/flash-tutorial-character-movement-with-arrow-keys/ is for AS2. I don't know how different AS3 is from 2. I haven't used Flash since it was "Macromedia Flash."

Yeah I've made flash games before. You should check out this. This website is very flash developer friendly. There is the information out there to help you learn what you want to do, and much much more. You just have to go and find it. Here are the developer forums for that same website: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/developers

So yeah, collision detection. There are a variety of different methods, and the methods change from language to language. I believe that with Flash you have a collision box underneath your sprites or images, and you just use that to detect collisions. With more complicated shapes there are more complicated methods for detecting collision. [Edit]Yeah, I was right: Collision Detection in Flash

[Edit]Dang, taking another look at that website makes me want to spend my time learning AS3 in hopes of making some spare cash while learning to code, haha.

Thanks for the links,

I prefer AS2 since I can assign code directly to the object

Hmm, I tried the link Cervantes gave me and I simulated Step 1, but for some reason, I'm not getting "Hit!" when the rectangles touch...

TheHappy115 -- Yea, thats the issue. Thanks. It would also explain why my deleted map couldn't get updated. Updated version reduced collision on units (only thing added) since was dodging game (players collide with each other)

Ultraviolet -- If so, I'd just focus on getting them on scmscx.com and then you can link to that in the showcase thread for your maps

Ultraviolet -- I can't upload my EUD maps, I think the DLDB has some issue with handling them. Are you trying to upload EUD maps?

TheHappy115 -- Its been awhile but ever since I requested one of the Maps I posted to be deleted since I couldn't delete it myself (or update it), I haven't been able to upload any more maps. Any reason for that?
