Bi-weekly and either 1 hour or 2 hours. The point of these contests isn't to make professional looking, high-quality maps (well, it
sort of is, based around the time spent), it's to have a sloppy mess of fun.
Let me show you how to hump without making love.

I always find interesting ideas in the contest maps, that's why I support contests. You make a map based off a very small idea, because it was the first one you came up with. I miss the old monthly contests to be honest.

I think it's funny that the 2 hour map making contest had more participants than any of the monthly map contests from the past 2 years. I think a month to finish a map makes people procrastinate. If we were going to do a monthly contest again, you should only have 1 day to do it (like the first of each month).
Anyways, I support weekly/biweekly and less than 2 hours (though from the looks of the last one, it's not like people will follow the 2 hour time limit). People will no doubt plan their maps before the contest if it isn't an impromptu thing, though.
Currently Working On: My Overwatch addiction.
Whenever I hosted 1 hour mapping contests, the fun in it was just to see who could squeeze out what within an hour. They were always impromptu, and usually had about 5-10 people. I still have a lot of the maps I made back then
Make them too long, and you lose that appeal.
I think random days ranging from 1-2 weeks is perfect for keeping things impromptu. Having it on a set date for 2 weeks just allows people to work beforehand. Of course, you could have them all an a weekly Sunday or something, and have each one have a specific theme. This theme wouldn't be released until the contest starts, so that people cannot prepare nearly as well beforehand. Plus, themes give the contest more structure, and it is fun to see all the different maps created about a specific theme.
In the past we just used random themes, one time it HAD to include zombies in the gameplay. Another theme, was that you had to make the players survive for a specific amount of time in a defensive positionish way, like a survival game. Another theme was "Arena", where the mapper had to make a battle map where each player had one character and fought everyone else with spells. Things like that.
Those are my thoughts.

Note:If something like that really comes up I probably will add a system, similar (but better) than mapnight/modnight system + adding managers for that who can ban/suspend users from that contests.

Anyway... the whole thing depends on what YOU want as an individual out of a contest. Whether it be a "sloppy mess of fun" or a bunch of nice finished re-playable maps, both of which are fun.
Themed ones leave less room for creativity, but in a day such as ours, creativity is already sparse, so themes really put ideas into your head quite nicely... doing more good than bad. Perhaps for the more creative, we could have OPTIONAL theme contests, where the theme is only a guideline not to necessarily be followed.
Only half of the projects of the 2hr contest were playable, and most of them weren't really interesting. Kenoli's was probably the best (othar thaan mine of caurse)... this leads me to believe that you can still have a contest of sloppy messes and have it be 2 hours. If you want maps that are complete-ish you would have to aim for at LEAST 3-5 hours depending if you have a theme or not.
In my opinion, the next contest should be a pirate or zombie (OR PIRATEZOMBIE) contest, as these areas (mostly pirate) are largely lacking in content in starcraft.
Ill post more when i remember all of my other thoughts.

Do we have a verdict?
I suggest a compromise where the bi-weekly calendar is final however one of the two challenges for the month will be 3 hours and the other one 24 hours.

Regardless of what this thread says or wants to do, I'm going to host a Four Hour Map Making Contest next Sunday.
None.
Am I authorized to create a new thread providing a poll with less options (eliminating the marginal ones so we can get a clearer view of the preferences) ?
None.
I'd prefer to have these contests on Saturdays to avoid lack of sleep the next day in school. I'll volunteer to be a manager of the contests, seeing as I've hosted and participated in many

Great.
I let you organize yourself with Devourer in order to have a great coded section.
May we set it Bi-Weekly, 4 hours?
