I totally support the idea of judges. Not only will we filter out the people that didn't play all the maps, we will also filter idiots, bandwaggons and popularity contests. The judges will also pick the specific category winners. After the results are announced, public votes are held for the specific categories and 'overall winner(s)'; those maps get 'public choice/love' awards.
Are you suggesting that judges pick winners for the specific categories
and the community votes and creates winners for them too?
No, I'm suggesting that there are two winners in each category: one chosen by the judges and one by the community.

A NEW CHALLENGER HAS ARRIVED
None.
I'd be happy to be a judge. I've got a lot of free time over christmas break to test all the maps, and i'm largely unbiased towards RPGs.

There can't be judges simply because we all entered into this contest under the rules that it would be a community vote and no judges. You can't chance the rules of the game during the last quarter.
My map's pretty much done, but I don't know if I'll enter it if an elite few decide on the quality of my map when the original agreement was for a community vote.
The elite few will make sure your map is judged properly. Like everyone has been saying a community vote promotes biased voting like it or not. It's not like we don't want the communities input at all, but I think we should be doing this professional and not some popularity contest. Let's say a person in the community doesn't play every map submitted, then I don't feel he has any right to cast a vote that means anything other then his own opinion. that's why I suggested we as a community vote on and place our trust in the judges we choose.
None.
And, as kenshin said, it is not a popularity contest. If I would've finished my map and posted it, I'd have a big disadventage, because the community doesn't know me, they don't know what maps I make and they'd rather vote for a community personality than for the guy with a fake muscle avatar.

Unless we have it judged by people who are unbiased (
ultimo lol). Maybe what we should do (maybe next year or something, since it might have been ruined) is have people submit the maps anonymously, having only one person know who's map is who's. Then bias couldnt happen.

TBH, a community vote is not always better. There are many reasons, like that we would have no idea that the people voting have played every single map and the such. With judges, you will be judged much more fairly.
Think of it this way, you wouldnt have a popular vote in the presidential system if only half of the country heard about both candidates, and the other half was only told about Obama and Ron Paul now would you? it wouldnt be fair for john mccain. See what i mean?

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face
That wouldn't work. People will know who made a lot of the maps, from the style, map topics, and demos, plus i don't want a version without my name floating around.
BTW I may enter still, I found some mapping time, but it'll be a last minute submission if I do finish.
Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
I'm sure you could still submit your map anonymously if you wish, it just wouldn't be fair to make anonymity a requirement.

Bwehehe, watch your lil terrain blocks, I'll find 'em! >:D

@Kaias: Is it a guarantee that the map we submit will be played? You said before that if some things didn't happen that some or most people would play one map and vote for it, where a small amount play all of them.
None.
Please do not make Payne a judge, my map has like 3-4 blocky patches of terrain.
None.
...
Which means Payne can't be a judge... why? Every map will have a few terrain blocks, not just yours.

He's probably gonna be biased
Whichever map has the best terrain gets his vote.

Thats not good for me at all, I'm not using any stacked or extended terrain in my map
the biggest thing is a few broken bridges and a bridge that acts like a highway bridge.
