New rule, to be able to vote you must play ALL the maps
That isn't at all enforceable, unless people had to vote by posting in thread rather than through a poll and they had to attach a replay of a play-through of each map. Not at all plausible.
This is the benefit of judges; they have to play each map. A hybrid system could work as well. If we had any sort of judge, I would want them to be the Global Mods and Admins.

I would say judges should vote. They have much more experience on what a "good" map is. Also, the community could be VERY biased on voting.

Yeah, you can take me off the list. SHAME

Keep me on the list, I'm practically finished with all beta testing and bug hunting!!
It'll be done by the 20th.
Your rpg is intensely difficult.
what do you mean difficult? to beat or to make?
If to beat; I realize, that's the point.
To make; no. Long.

I could be a judge I guess...

TWO WEEKS LEFT-----------

Anyways, I found a few more bugs I'm working on, which might take me to the deadline. In about a week I'll keep post an update on my situation. If this takes me to the deadline, I'll have to drop out last minute since the bug(s) make my map partially unplayable right now since they disable an entire section of my map. But don't take me off the list yet, I could possibly fix it tonight.

I'd like to apply for judge.
And imo it should be judges only, but since I'm a nice guy who doesn't want to disappoint anybody I'd go for the 50/50 judge/community proposal.
However I'd still make it a requirement to have played at least 50% of the maps if you're going to vote. Yes, you can't control it, but you can urge the people to play fair and do so.
I say judge only, it is in my opinion the best way to do things.
None.
After some consideration I've decided that some measure of Judge involvement must be implemented. Most people will play only have played a few and many will only have played one that they know they like and vote for it.
Right now I'm considering two possibilities of how to handle it:1. Judges rate the top 5 maps and pick the contest winner, the community then votes on which of those 5 wins each category (listed below).
2. Judges rates the maps, pick a winner and then pick a winner for each category (again, shown below), the community then votes between all the maps and that map wins the People's Choice' award

Most innovative
Best storyline
Best gameplay
Greatest replayability
Most professional
Most aesthetically pleasing
Funniest
Best briefing
Most bad ass
Most creativeThose are the two options unless someone can come up with a better idea of how to combine the best of both worlds. And yes, I accept your application, NudeRaider.

At this point I'm assuming that whoevers anyone who doesn't have a link setup to their thread regarding the RPG they are making, that they will be dropping out as well? This doesn't leave the list of maps very big at all in that case, not to mention how many of us are completely finished and will being FINISHED your map give you more points? If so then to get extra points, one can simply sum everything up at the last minute and have a "finished" version then easily work on it next year. I will have a solid playable version of my RPG but have so much I want to do with it still that I will continue production in 2010.
@Kaias: The system used for the judges sounds great so far. I think 3 well respected and RPG experienced veterans here @ SEN, who are not participating in the contest, could Judge the maps. The community I think should vote on who those 3 Judges should be. That would contribute enough from the community in my opinion.
Good Luck to everyone in the contest!

At this rate, I will win at least 1 category due to lack of competition.
I'm excited =).

I'd like a category for the best atmosphere (or style). A big thing in creating video games is to carry an overall atmosphere or tone for specific parts of the game, or throughout the entire game, depending on the game's length. This can most effectively be done through both the developer's overall style and music, both of which can be used in an SC map.
I would like to apply for a judge position as well, I would enjoy critiquing games as it is a skill I'm going to need to be able to exercise in both DigiPen and the games industry

Sounds great, I vote for myself to be judge.
On a serious note I think we should have
5 community voted judges and use Kaias' second proposal. This way we have a decent community influence but still a very fair and balanced voting.

(Though I guess 3 judges would be ok, too)
Kaia's first proposal has the problem that there might be more then 5 different maps being worth winning a category. And the community voted categories might differ from what the judges thought which category a certain map should win.

Wait, this is a mapping contest? I thought it was a production thread for the map Nightfall, my bad.

I totally support the idea of judges. Not only will we filter out the people that didn't play all the maps, we will also filter idiots, bandwaggons and popularity contests. The judges will also pick the specific category winners. After the results are announced, public votes are held for the specific categories and 'overall winner(s)'; those maps get 'public choice/love' awards.

Are you suggesting that judges pick winners for the specific categories
and the community votes and creates winners for them too?
