hey, can anyone tell me how to make a spell that confuses units, making them spin around in circles

Yes, you will need to use mobile grids and a Deathcount timer though, if you have a basic understanding of how to use these things, let me know and I'll give you the basic set-up for such a spell.
None.
Death timer I'm good with, no clue with the mobile grid though.
None.
Grid SystemsAlso, you might want to consider the simpler solution: JunkYard Dog AI.
None.
Okay, basically you're going to have to set it up like this:
1. Set up a death counter that constantly runs for player X. You're going to have to play around with the exact value that you want, but you're going to have a decently large number that is divisible by four. For this example, I'm going to pick 60. In addition to this, create 4 small locations (approx 1X1 or 1.5X1.5)
2. 60 divides into 4 X 15, so now you are going to want to set up four triggers - one for each of these 1/4th of the original death counter. Set up the triggers like this:
C: [Conditions that are met once the players is afflicted with the spell]
[Player X has suffered at least 45 deaths]
A: Issue order move for character owned by afflicted player to Location 1
Preserve trigger.
Repeat the above trigger for each quarter of the deathcount timer for player X. You will have Death Conditions like "Player X has suffered at most 15 deaths, Player X has suffered at least 16 and at most 30 deaths, etc..."
3. For this step, I'm assuming that you center a decent-sized location over the main hero of an enemy. The instant the player is afflicted by the spell, create 9 devourers at this location. Refer to the Grid System wiki to see the order that devourers are removed to center locations 1-4 on the four devourers that are on the corners. Do this all within one trigger cycle.
DONE! the end result is that players will now run in circles [Well, more like demented squares] when they are afflicted with this spell.
None.
ok, my counter is 5 secs long so 60 deaths, but im using scm format map not scx, so no broodwar buildings or units, so no devourer.
None.
Mutalisks will work also.
None.
arbiter, guardian, and mutalisk (plus their heroes) work.
@ Jaff. Constantly running JYD would make them randomly move around?
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
Yes, it would, if they were computer/neutral(?) players, but not if they're human.
None.
they are comps, and i tried JYD and it didnt work, they continue attacking
None.
You have to spam JYD, running it once won't confuse them. If you run it every trigger cycle with hyper triggers however, it will. They won't move in circles, but rather sporadically. In my map I'm using it as well, and I run it once every 3 trigger cycles with hyper triggers, also seems to work fine.
None.
Perhaps try Junkyard Dog AI with a Preserve trigger and Hyper triggers for the set duration of the confusion?
And if you need to stop the attacking, then you can switch control of the 'player' unit to a neutral computer and then run the Junkyard Dog AI,
then just return control of the unit to the player when it's finished. This will give the added effect of actually losing control over the unit via confusion.
None.
If you constantly run JYD, they don't run around in circles. They just kinda jiggle in place and have uncontrolled seizures.
None.
They just kinda jiggle in place and have uncontrolled seizures when creatures are in this state.
What is... confused?
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
PERFECTED!!! i have finished my confusion spell. (i haven't even been on the comp for almost a month^_^) the enemies in range of my hero start jerking and seizing for a few seconds, then converge on the origin of the spell (AKA where ever the hero was when he casted the spell) thank you all for the help guys
