just wondering; does the term 'foes' used in triggering refer to anyone who isn't allied? Even if they are in the same force? i need to do some triggering and i can test these thigns out but it is apain and i'm looking to save some time

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

As long as you don't make a habit out of it... Posting questions that can be answered with a quick test are technically against the rules.

Foes ignores forces and includes anyone you have not allied. Basically every player that turns your cursor red.

well it '"isn't" a quick test or i would have tested it. i'd need some scrub from bnet to be ok with playing like 8 games with me to test all of the varoius possibilities. not to mention locking a progress version of a map just so he cant nose around in it.

Back* from the grave

Players: p1
Conditions: p1 has exactly 7 foes
Actions: Display text "you've got 7 enemies"

Players: p1
Conditions p1 has exactly 6 foes
Actions: Display text "you've got 6 enemies"

Repeat.
How is that not a quick test? All it would take is changing settings, putting in 7 triggers, and placing start locations. You wouldn't even have to show your "real" map that you're testing for...meaning you can make a separate map and watch it work.

because i would test the actual triggers (of which there would be many) and it requires human slots. i don't understand why i'm getting trouble about this. i was a member here years ago and i recall this being a place of helpfullness where information is shared between people and one is not scolded for asking for the advice and knowledge of another. Will you talk down to someone who has just started mapping who comes here and asks about a bunker loading trigger?

I would request that they view the tutorial about basic UMS, which includes that. I'm pointing out that a test map would take at most 5 minutes to make, and I provided you with a description of the triggers involved. You don't have to test the actual map for something like this; it's a small test that wouldn't change anything in your map.

Don't be so quick to attack someone providing a terse alternative.

alright bro thats cool. sorry to get all loopy. I've been gone for 4 years and i've forgotten lots. Maybe i'm slightly embarassed =[. but it still should be tested w/ people b/c its a trigger to work like mana burn but with player score instead of energy.

i have another quick question. is there a way to turn off vision for a single area and not the whole map. I tried run ai script at locatino for player but it turns off vision for the entire map. I'm trying to block some bits on the outside of the game area that i dont want the player to see.

Depending on how many players you have, you could have a computer player with vision of all the correct areas (using map revealers or whatever) but no vision of the areas you don't want seen. Then have the players un-vision themselves and share vision with that computer player. Aside from something like this, there is no "turn off vision at location" script or action.
