Absorb N Reflect

This map called Absorb N Reflect is a map that falls under 2 categories; it is an arena, and a sort of melee map. The point of the map is to of course 'Absorb N Reflect'.


'Note': This image doesn't do my terrain any justice D:

As you can see, there are two arenas, one on the right and one on the left. The left arena is where your 1 of 8 characters will be fighting through the other up to 5 opponents to kill P8 units, known as Energy. To absorb an energy you simply kill it with your character, or your one of 3 of your characters spells.


Here is a shot of the left arena terrain where energy will travel along a random path. I haven't counted, but there should be somewhere around 20 different paths that p8 units can walk along.

Once an energy is killed on the left arena, you will gain experience corresponding to the difficulty of the kill, and you will receive a copy of the energy absorbed. The copy will appear in your base on the right arena. There are six bases, 1 per player, and a 'hill' in the midst of the right arena. In each base each player has 1 cannons, and a missile turret. The missile turret represents a life, and each player has four extra lives in the bottom left of the map. Other players try to kill your lives, and you defend your own with your absorbed energies.

Each player's mana is constantly generating, and you can upgrade the gen speed, as well as your maximum HP for your character, or choose 30 ore. Each character is different, and you should choose your upgrades well, a spellcaster does NOT need maximum hp, as a fighter does not need maximum mana gen.

Everytime the timer on the map hits 0, the stakes for being killed by an opponent grow larger. For the first 4 minutes, when a there is a pvp death, the winner is given 2 ore. Once the timer hits 0 the winner will be given 6 ore, and the next time the timer hits 0, 10 ore, and so on. When a player is killed, their unit respawns in 20 seconds, and that player's mana constantly drains. The player is then respawned in one of 6 random locations on the left arena.

The energies that spawn spawn at random, with 8 different possible units to spawn. Once the timer hits 0 for the second time, a new list of p8 units will spawn, all of which are much tougher.

At the bottom right of the map there is an ingame tutorial to explain the key points of the map at the shuttle.

I rate this map at about 95% done.

Recently Changed:
New map uploaded, Version beta 8.

Removed walls on the right arena. Added dueling system (a little buggy atm). Added Zone Control to the right arena. Lowered timer. More balancing of characters.

Important:

This map has been changed quite a bit.. The reason that it has taken me so dang long to finish this map is my schoolwork. I'm really busy during the school year, and now that summer has finally rolled around I have time to finish this thing up.

Is the updated file ready to download off of this site yet? YES- The beta version is available for download!
But it will be ready soon! Check in to this topic to see when I release it, I plan for this map to be done by the end of June 20th!

Help test with this map with me! I've heard from quite a few people that this map could be made to be really fun, including UnholyUrine. I'm sure the more testers I get, the more fun this map will be =]

I'll be in either OP Sen or Clan Orig on west!

Yes! The respawn bug has finally been found! The map is playable with 4 people, but only 3 characters have spells atm :O

you hosted this game on uswest a while ago.. i left cause it was so flawed

Oh and by the way u should protect this map.. its not that enjoyable at the moment coz its so fl@\/\/ed but it seems like a nice map if you dont know a good map protector you can use osmap

Oh, I didn't really notice the bugs when I played. My main complaint is that the connection between moving my hero around killing random stuff and then managing the right side of the map was too loose and I couldn't really feel a point in playing, so after a while I just left the game.

Right, I know what you mean. I made the missile turret's health MUCH lower, and added a zone controlish part to the right arena. It is now easy to "rush" people at the beginning, and early on micro can help you out a lot on the right arena.

Okay.. i've been thinking about this a lil...

I still think the link between the two arenas is too gimmicky and not supported enough...
My suggestion of having only one arena open and having a time limit there would make the game interesting.. but not what you want it to be.. so that's okay...

What we need to do now then is to help players control both arenas easily..

There should be an option to hide or safe keep the hero on the left arena so that you can attack at the right..
The units at the left just kinda wonders around everywhere... and you'll never be safe at any spot... ..
There should be spots where the comp units cannot go to... and only other heroes can go to (so that allows players to pick off ur hero when you're not watching.. but won't get ur hero pwned by those random units) ..

Another thing may be that the comp units at the left are too strong (or that your hero's too weak) ....
it is nearly impossible to do both areas at once BeCause the heroes are so weak against the comps..
So make the comp units weaker OR make the heroes stronger.. (and I mean a LOT stronger...) .. make the left PvP and the RIght mass vs mass ...

There's not enough units that can really change the tide.. you need more spell units at play... such as Sci-ves, defilers, HT's, Arbiters, and Dark Archons... and Dark Templars even... .. Right now it's so bland and boring with the same units over and over.... If u add the above units.. it's good cause these units will run away from you.. so that you'd have to catch it and stuff..

You also need a bigger difference in your heroes... Tank should be very strong and powerful.. but can't grab air units.. while the others have to have their own niche...

Overall.. your core gameplay and game design is lacking a lot.. and it would get boring once ppl see past the gimmicky 2 arena thing if you don't make better changes and increase the gameplay.
