I recently decided to take up modding and could use a little help. I started following the "How to write a starcraft mod III" tutorial and I got stuck on the first basic .dat editing exercise lol. I'm pretty sure I followed it correctly. I changed the unit properties in datedit, created a new .mpq with my .dat file, and then loaded the .mpq patch with mpqdraft, all easily with no problems. The problem is the changes don't show up when starcraft runs after clicking finish. I must be missing something. Do I need to have any of those programs or the files I made in the starcraft directory? Or any specific directory? Do I need to downgrade for the changes to work?
Sorry for being a newb. Any and all help is greatly appreiciated.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO
Did you add your .dat file into arr\ on the mpq?
fuck you all
ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO
Well, are you running it on a custom map on UMS mode? Every single change you make to unit stats will be un done with the map if the map has another unit stats.
Other than that, attach your .mpq and/or check if the locale ID is set to 0 ( you set this on WinMPQ options)
fuck you all
Just use DatEdit to create a SEMPQ instead.

I've been trying it on the default ffa and mele maps the game comes with like (2) River Crossing. Am I using the wrong kind of map?
Local ID is set to 0

Try making one with _datEdit_

Did you save all of the .dat files with the correct names? If you save them as anything other than units.dat, weapons.dat, etc, they won't work.
Upload your Mpq exactly how your testing, So someone can really look at whats wrong ;o.

Ah, didn't know that. That's what I was doing wrong. Creating a SEMPQ with Datedit also works fine. Thanks guys.
