Gameplay
Hero Wars 2009 is a migration from the Temple Siege concept. You select from 7 entirely unique heroes and work as a team to eliminate your opponents. Each hero has 3 main spells which are gained by leveling and you also get a heal ability. The heroes are designed for spell combining, which involves hunting/chasing spells, various defensive skills and ultimate/damage spells. Each hero has their individual strengths and drawbacks. You can upgrade your hero in various ways, such as gaining new spells, improving mana, upgrading damage or increasing spawn number.

Distortion - Stops enemies from escaping for 5 seconds
Morph - Transforms your body into a Queen

Shuriken - Throws a powerful bomb at a random enemy target
You could be a little more specific, i.e. how do you throw it, is it a 1 hit kill, how do you plan on dealing damage?

Time travel - Teleports you back 20 seconds in time
Bloodrage - Gains massive attack damage for 3 seconds
Berserk - Weakens and berserks enemy heroes for 3 seconds
Invert - Sacrifices 70% of your HP for 300% extra damage

the time travel works by monitoring your hero every second using 1 of 20 location layers. the game then decides which location tracked you 20 seconds ago and moves you there.

bloodrage works by replacing your unit with the hero version of that unit, which is 6 times more powerful. it then swaps the units back and u dont even notice the swap because its the same unit.

berserk works by giving the targeted player to a computer player for a few seconds, which obviously removes the upgrades and it will auto attack until it is given back to the player.

invert works a bit like bloodrage. however there is no limited spell time. the player can switch between the 2 units at any time. there is however a 6 second cooldown for this spell.

shuriken works by moving the hero to a hidden area for a few seconds, and creates a ready-to-attack spider mine in its location. the mine instantly attacks the nearest unit, and once it explodes, the hero is moved back to the location of where the spider mine exploded.

Cleaver, but time travel isn't really time travel because you would have to change every unit on the map back and set their all their stats and such, but clearly it would be impossible unless you make an arena based on time travel like Kaias did.

You misunderstand, he means to just teleport the hero back to where he was 20 seconds ago. This is, essentially, my revoke spell, but 20 seconds.

I guess I did. The title of the spell threw me off. :omfg:

So wait, the map is finished? Also, are you familiar with the already-established hero wars series?(Not to be confused with custom hero wars)

Feb 21 2009, 6:41 am MetalGear Post #9

yes i admit the name is realy bad. however the reason its so basic is because i want people to know what kind of map it is by looking at the title. also, hero wars maps have gained some popularity so it should help my map get started. i may have to actually consider renaming it? any ideas?

Those spells look quite cool from what I can tell.

If it gets decently popular, I highly recommend updating it with more heroes and spells.
EDIT: I haven't played it yet, but I have played DotA, and if there are defensive towers in your map, and even if there aren't, Swap is an extremely rigged spell. You could very easily lay a trap for a hero.

every hero has their strengths and weaknesses. the hero who uses swap suffers a lack of damage, as he is used for support and chasing. however each hero also has defensive/escape abilities. some heroes morph, others evade or even silence.

i have already explained this.

center location ever 20 seconds? though youd get screwed if it centered right before you casted; or you could make it a double cast first cast being placing the location second being moved back to it within 20seconds of casting. lots of ways to do it, not that hard...

It doesn't matter that the hero with swap has crappy damage. His allies just need to be buff, then they could lay an ambush and double team one hero. You could also just swap them into a tower if they are weak. I played (sort of, didn't finish) yesterday. The towers are ridiculously weak. The spawn is good, but I find it really easy to gain levels. The selection system at the beginning of the game is cool, though (high templar).

Sleeping wolves wake hungry.

I'll be honest, I think the spells/abilities are unimaginative. Useful and efficient, but nothing special.

I'm a little fed up of dota maps without decent spells, that just spawn siege tanks or lurkers or something.

The mehanics are fine, it's just the details.

Yes, I commend you for that at least, but there are many more things you can do with starcraft than you think - it just requires a bit more imagination.

Also, Shuriken could be done with scarabs, but I guess the moving of your hero gives a melee attacker a slight advantage. It could go either way I suppose.
