As some, none, or all of you may know in London their has been a controversy over some particular ads. What were the ads? Well it appears atheism is spreading, and that there has been advertisements promoting such beliefs. One of the ads go much like this. ''There is no god, so stop whining and get on with your day.'' (or something much like that.)

Of course, this pissed some people off. One of them in particular was of course religious groups. (Because clearly, they often times are easily startled over every and anything.) So what did the religious groups do about this? Well, of course they whined about it. And after that didn't work - this is the funny part - They actually began to advertise their own religious views as well. One of them in particular goes the same damn way as the example listed first paragraph.

Now, my own views on such a subject is that I'm not really surprised with Religious groups ripping other people off, it has happened a lot of times in the past after all. However, I'm quite angered my self to see how the religious groups are whining about atheist ads if they are doing the same bloody thing themselves. My own opinion of this entire ordeal is that religion or personal beliefs should not, and should never be imposed, enforced, and advertised on people. and their are numerous reasons of why, which I shall be listing.

1. Someones personal beliefs is not a product, it should not be treated like one.

2. It's wrong to enforce someones own beliefs against another persons own. Not unless you can say what Hitler did was entirely all right.

3. It will cause a conflict, much like this one.

Now, I also wish to hear an opinion from my fellow Plebeians of SEN. Just try to keep in mind to have some sense of maturity and not randomely shout out anything discriminating against everyone.

I don't see anything wrong with ads for or against religion, as long as they don't force me to listen/view.
Afterall I can't make educated decisions if I don't get informed or even know about something.

i would agree with NudeRaider on this one, You can advertise your beliefs.. hoping people will listen as long as your not forcing them to, or harassing them about it. Conversion isn't a person-to-person conflict. somebody cannot Convert someone else, its a personal choice.

It's more of a lack of belief, which is why it makes people mad that they advertise it, because they are basically just dissing on religion, since they're believes are just a lack of belief.

Relatively ancient and inactive

I don't get the problem here. Every single freaking religion in the world was spread via propaganda, as were most anti-religious movements. What do you think missionaries were, bikes?

Also, as rants go, that isn't it. This is my person go at a 'rant': http://www.staredit.net/topic/2101/0/ .

I agree that it is a tad hypocritical for religious counters to employ the same tactics as those that spurred them into action. But advertising space is advertising space, and everyone has the right to use it if they so please.

One of the reasons why I think that religious groups take such offense to any outspoken atheism or agnosticism is because they project their own senses of certainty onto those challenging their beliefs. I really like this article, and I hope that it clears up some misunderstandings between the different sides: http://www.uniformvelocity.com/2009/02/atheist-is-not-arrogant.html

My thanks to Doodan, for not posting this in the "Serious Discussion" topic. Unfortunately, a lot of religious topics are thrown in there. I think the writers fail to acknowledge the name of the forum topic. hehe.

I dont see why people care enough to advertise. If you believe what you believe 100%, then you wouldnt be goin around tryin to slam the other side about their views.

And its not really like we're actually learning about religon from the commericals. They're basically sayin just come on into our church, which i suppose is an acceptable way to gain followers, but if they're having like a war on the tv about who is right or not, thats just dumb and should be taken off the air.

There's no problem advertising your beliefs, but when you show any sign of mockery, derogation, or offense towards the other side, then there is a problem.

Shadow, in 10 years Christianity will seem like a fable myth to the English(66%< of the population is Atheist already). Just let them whine as they fade away.

When DOESN'T Religion FORCE belief systems onto people?

Religion is a tool for the elite to control the mass and establish control over the weak.

Atheists make me laugh. I 'used to be one' until I found out that everyone is essentially part of the Creator (call the creator 'god' if you wish)

I never have been forced to believe anything by any religious group.
Technically I'm atheist but on the paper im catholic. I went to religious classes out of interest and started a discussion here and there with my teacher. But I was never forced to believe his teachings.
