I see you !

afaik the valid properties in the units are only used by staredit. Starcraft uses the valid unit properties fields which it loads from units.dat, which is why messing with these fields in an editor is pointless, you cant enable things that were not enabled, and disabling more things isn't exactly useful.

Disabling more things allows for better compressed maps.

Aside from that, what about the X/Y and such?

Yeah, unit ID and X/Y would be handy additions. Also, with sprites, can you make their selection work like units? If I select 5 of them, I can't change their ownership all together, I have to click each one individually and change its ownership.

None.

that makes no sense.

Does each unit have a certain size that cannot be reduced by removing some of its properties?

None.

Jan 4 2009, 4:56 pm Heinermann Post #26

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

The unit size in bytes can't be reduced, but because more bytes are the same (0x00), it will compress better.

What do you think would compress better?

0x00 0x00 0x64 0x00
or
0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

But that's not helping shrinking map size, that's helping shrinking the size of a zip with the map inside, right?

What do you think an MPQ archive is?

A compilation of several data types. But the way you're asking I suppose it's compressed by algorithms similar to zip.
Sry for my lack of knowlege.

But still we're talking about the maps right? And afaik a map is not compressed or part of MPQ's, unless you create a mod and include the map(s) in the MPQ.

Jan 4 2009, 5:15 pm Heinermann Post #30

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

SCM and SCX files are MPQ archives.

Can you please stop giving information only in such tiny bits?
So are you implying that SCM and SCX files use compression algorithms similar to ZIP?

Jan 4 2009, 5:33 pm Clokr_ Post #32

Yeah exactly. Raw uncompressed maps are the .chk files.

?????

Jan 4 2009, 5:58 pm Suicidal Insanity Post #33

I see you !

they use pkware stuff. But the unit properties stuff are flags, so you are not adding null bytes.

Jan 4 2009, 6:08 pm Heinermann Post #34

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.

I said before when unit properties flags are unchecked, their corresponding value is set to default. Defaults are 100% HP, 100% shields, 100% energy, 0 resources, 0 hangar count. If you uncheck valid HP/Shields/Energy, you can set the values to 0. In game they will be 100%.

Back* from the grave

Well, then my computer's buggy or something, because I've always had the units data reset to what it can always do [like no zealot can burrow]

so back to the title, is as usual nobody there that wants to help fix that supposed freeze? :P

the topic author never got back to you after suggesting the whole "try this file!!!" thing...so we assumed it worked. :><:

I would be willing. You should know that by now, but this particular bug never happened to me. :ermm:
