MNeox takes the cake (which is a lie by the way), but he used way too many sprites, including, of course, the ones that would crash the map. His idea is unique, and other than some people he actually did some 'extended terrain' which is essential in any competition.
I vote MNeox, next to Pigy_G, next to Fwop_.
I vote Fwop. MNeox has a nice bit of terrain but it's suffocatingly sprite heavy and isn't even possible within StarCraft, a fact that completely removes any value it held. You may as well draw in some flowers with Paint and turn it in.
Fwop's looks great. The fog works really well to make the place look secluded, it actually feels like an industrial sweatshop down there. It doesn't have any excessive extended terrain to make it flashy, it's only used where it's needed. Out of all seven of the entries, Fwop's is the only one that actually feels and fits the criteria.

I like the originality of kaias's, but it's pretty blocky in some places. It'd be pretty cool if you had a bunch of scarabs going to the warping blue thing.

I had actually planned that, but I ran out of time

While I have been defending the sprite usage of MNeox, I admit that the piece would not look as good as it does without those sprites, and a lot of them couldn't even be replicated via triggers, unlike the piece done by Devourer, so my vote goes to Pigy_g, as his piece was quite original, and it looks the most like an industrial place to me, the other's are like in the mountains...
I like how his looks better, and it seems to fit the theme better as well.
My reasons for not liking Fwop's piece are that it really isn't extended, nothing in it is truly original, I admit it's a nice picture, but it doesn't show true terrain skill, and many parts, like that bottom part, could easily have been extended, but instead used sprites.

personally i dont care if its usable, im all for using what ever resouces posible to make the coolest thing, but functionality is good.
None.
As Kaias said though, if it isn't functional, what's the point? What makes it any different than just editing the photo?

I do hate to bring this up so many times, but since when was this forum extended terrain only? It might just be me, but I can't bare to look at some of the crap in the forum using extended terrain. Extended terrain does not imply good terrain, if terrain at all.

I liked sticky's idea of the units being built. Though I think the terrain could of been a bit better.

Maybe you can set certain rules when it is your turn to host the competition. I'll be participating in the next competition. I voted Mneox.
I don't mean to set rules, just when the generally perceived quality of terrain posted on the forum is positive, it is very disconcerting. I suppose it's just my tendency to have a very high standard when it comes to something as easy as making terrain functional, appealing, and smooth.

I dont get why Mneox's is so great, It's like on extended wall, then a assload of sprites. Many of which only work once or crash starcraft.

Obviously it's very great, seeing as how people keep voting for it.

exactly.
But it sill looks good... he
the terrain-maker of SCBW
Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.
Its not that he's great. Its that no one else (to the extent of my knowledge) has the time or capacity to make some of that stuff.
If you'd like, come to ShadowFlare's Realm, and I'll show you some of the terrain I've made for my map.
Pigy by far has used the least sprites (even though it says sprite limit). Some of the container "effects" will crash Starcraft however. I'm inclined to vote for her.

Yeah, but I'm saying that if you can extend the terrain instead of using sprites, that's usually the best choice, not to mention it isn't even a very amazing Isometric piece either, it's more the units than anything.

I can't begin to understand why extending terrain is the automatic solution to making a terrain look better. Tell me, what could I do in such a little area that uses extended terrain that does not include a blocky, new doodad?
I'd also like to see an "amazing Isometric piece."
