Relatively ancient and inactive

So, I seem to have a really, really nasty piece of malware on my computer. Nasty, as in indetectable. I've run through Adaware, Avast, Spybot S&D and haven't found anything through hijackthis - in case anyone can read them well, here it is:

I've tried running the hijackthis through some online analyzers and checked through everything they pointed out as dangerous, it's still here. How do I know? IT LOGGED INTO MY WOW ACCOUNT Dx.

I've done pretty much all I can think of. If worst comes to worst, I can reinstall Windows and all that. Hmm.. would system restore restore it? O_o

Whoever points me in the right direction that I haven't foreseen and leads to this thing getting removed gets a cookie.

Vurry interesting. I've seen that before, but forgot. Thanks for the link!

Working on it. Normally I'll give a mineral prize, but I know that'll pretty much go to waste. Does the thought count? :P.

Again, thanks. I'll see how it goes.

Yeah, I don't need the mineral prize. You can repay me by reading the pinned threads so I don't have to post links contained in them. ;)

Fascinating. I think it phailed. The things used found some things, the combofix was the only hick (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH), and I got an email that my account was accessed after changing my password after doing everything.

Good to know that my negligence didn't hurt! I'll look around a bit more and reinstall windows and all if all else fails. If anyone has another idea...

I periodically, like every 3 months, wipe my harddrive, is there anything on yours that would prevent you from doing that, other than it's slightly annoying?

This reminds me of back in 4th grade when I didn't know there was free software that would scan and remove spyware, so I used a free scanner and then tracked it all down myself :P

When malware goes by undetected, I usually try to hunt down the process(es) it creates, and any threads it might have in explorer or svchost, kill them, then remove it from any boot entry I can find, and then delete it. It's worked pretty well for me over the years.

I'll probably wipe my hard drive anyway - getting dirty. I have a folder dedicated to Photoshop of which maybe 1/4 of the stuff I actually care about (having been made by me). Also, I have some programs that I don't care about, etc.

However, Fatimid, can you explain better what exactly you do for future reference?

Just save your images in a seperate container than wipe the drive clean. :D

I get ProcessExplorer and Autoruns from Microsoft, and then I check every single process and autorun entry they give me that looks like it doesn't belong. Then, ProcessExplorer allows to check the dll files loaded by a process, so if the malware is running in explorer.exe, I can still find it and kill the thread (that's in the properties somewhere). Once I think I got all instances of it, I try and delete any offending files, and hopefully it doesn't come back on reboot. Some trickier malware also pretend they're files from other programs, so checking location and size of the file executed by the processes is sometimes important.

I remember www.codinghorror.com having a fuller description of that in its archives somewhere.
